The party was in full swing by the time blue, and Olivia reached the pool.  Blue wandered off towards the poolside, where a bunch of empty seats was set.

"Hi." A voice startled her.

Alex Gordon, from afar, didn't seem like a Beverly kid, but sadly for blue, he was a rich kid through and through.

" hi."

" am I making you uncomfortable?"

" do I seem uncomfortable?" Alex laughed at that.

" you look like you could throw up."

For the next couple of hours, Alex and blue's conversation flowed easily. Almost like they have known each other for years.

" Alex, this has been super great, but I think I have to go."

Blue kept looking over to the left at Spencer, who was rushing to get his stuff which for sure did not go unnoticed by Alex.

" oh, I get it. I didn't know you had a boyfriend."

She should've stopped him from walking away. To explain, she was just worried about a friend.

"Spencer."

"Yo. I gotta go back to Crenshaw."

" let me drive you. It's the least I could do after last night."

"You sure"

"Yes. We just have to stop by my house first."

The ride to Crenshaw was primarily spent in silence. But it wasn't awkward for the two teens.

" Spencer. "

"Blue."

She didn't know why she was so nervous about asking him about Layla. Maybe it was the fear she had about losing him already.

" Layla. she's Ashton's girlfriend, and I'm not accusing you of anything, and maybe I should be minding mine, but I just want you to be careful. "

" Blue, I know they are together, and I'm not like that."

Blue could feel the rough beat of her heart speed up.

" I wasn't trying to make it seem like you are. You're my only friend and-"

Spencer reached over, placing his hand on her knee in the most platonic way ever. " no matter what happens, we will stay friends."

Spencer smiled at how much blue cared for their friendship already. Loyalty was important to him.

" enough about me, though. Don't think I didn't see you and that boy."

" his name is Alex." She blushed just at the thought of him. " and I'm pretty sure I blew it."

"You? Messing things up. That doesn't sound like you at all."

"Funny. He thinks you're my boyfriend. I did nothing to stop him from thinking that."

" blue"

"I'm sorry. It's somehow just easier to let him think that."

" it's okay to let him in."

All the way home, she couldn't help but let Spencer's words repeat in her head all night. Logically she knew he was right, but she just couldn't help it.

Blue jones didn't know how to love.
