(Y/N)'s POV
The next day of school was finally over. Seeing as I have a job to do, I split myself off from Izuku and Kamita, saying I'm gonna go 'buy something' before I go home. It wasn't too big of a surprise to them. Depending on the moment, I tend to be a lone-wolf so they let me go without suspicion. I felt a pair of eyes on me so I moved away from school grounds and changed into a hoodie in a secluded alley. After done and packing my UA uniform into my backpack, I continued. I no longer felt them watching me.
One of Miyagi's competitors is expecting a delivery of high-quality porcelain. He wants me to intercept and make sure the delivery doesn't make it there meanwhile he works out a deal to buy the porcelain for himself at a discounted price. More or less - my standard job from him; 'mercenary work'.
After a while of walking, I intercepted the truck and as it moved, I followed it until we were in a more... secluded area. From behind the cover of a building, I watched the truck slow down. Using my quirk, I levitated the truck slightly off the ground so that it wouldn't move and bent a few parts of it's inner workings - essentially disabling it's ability to move. Just to be safe, I loosened the valve and allow air to slowly leak out on some of the tyre. I quickly set the truck down and, as expected - the driver came out moments later to check on why the truck wasn't moving. With my job done, and them being very stuck, I fled the scene before anyone saw me.
Eventually, during my walk back, Miyagi told me that he struck the deal, and that I'm free to leave even though I was already half way home by that point. As is usual with my routine, I stopped by a shop before going home. I was feeling thirsty so I bought some boba tea.
Three fourths of the way, I stopped in my tracks... and the sound behind me stopped as well.
(Y/N) "Not bad. You don't have much of a presence so that works to your advantage, you're also good at controlling your breathing and timing your steps - perks you picked up from training, I suspect. but you're too stiff. You're resisting the wind. I can practically make out your form just by the feel of the air breaking."
The figure tailing me stopped. His movements completely halted. Smiling, I finally turned around to call them out.
(Y/N) "Come on out... Todoroki..."
A few seconds past, and the I was proven correct when my culprit revealed himself from behind the building. He looked at me with his usual indifference but I sense surprise.
Todoroki "How did you know?"
(Y/N) "I've grown rather alert to my surroundings over the years."
Todoroki "I can see that. When did you find out that I was following you?"
(Y/N) "If I'm being honest, after we left school. But it looks like you lost me for a while and waited here for me to pass through, right?"
With a smug smile, I watched as Todoroki's eyes grew wider.
Todoroki "Huh..."
(Y/N) "Come on, let's walk. That way I won't be home at midnight."
Todoroki "Actually, my driver is nearby. Let me give you a ride home."
The rejection of his previous offer led to him going uncomfortably silent. Perhaps that was disappointment. Maybe I should entertain his gesture this time...
After thinking for a while, I looked at Todoroki again with a warm and casual smile.
(Y/N) "Sure! I wouldn't mind. Had quite a long walk today."
He didn't say much and his face was stoic as ever but I swear I can almost see the corners of his lips move up ever so slightly. Well, at least I know he likes my company, that's a start.
The drive was mostly quiet but calm. Todoroki doesn't talk much but he answers and asks. Every now and again, we strike a topic that gets him talking more than a few sentences. As I look out at the street lights passing by, lighting a sunless city, I can't help but feel my heart ache as my mind reminded me of someone who used to share their night-time rides with me as well.
He was a quite guy too, just like Todoroki...
*Timeskip*
The day of the field trip has arrived. Everyone is wearing their hero costume and we're currently in a bus, and as you can imagine it's....
chaos.
Bakugou is cursing like a sailor's sailor, Kamita is playing with Kaminari (they became friends after the fight), Izuku is sweating so much, the seat is changing colour, Iida is yelling to try getting someone - anyone's attention, our teacher has turned into a cocoon at the front, Jirou is rocking out to herself while plugging her ear-jacks into an mp3 player, Mineta is... well- Mineta, and I'm here in the back with Todoroki and Yaoyorozu, seemingly the only place doesn't currently look like an Irish bar in a Friday night.
Luckily, I got to sit at next to the window, so I spent most of the initial stages looking out, that is until,
Todoroki "What is your dad like?"
I turned around and faced Todoroki who sat next to me.
(Y/N) "Where did that question come from?"
Todoroki "Just wanted to know."
Seeing as it's an uncomfortable topic, I looked back out the window.
(Y/N) "In all honesty,... I hate him. I don't even know what I did to make him despise my existence but it's been like that for as long as I can remember. He never texts me, never calls me, in the brief time he's home, all he does is look at me like I'm crap that crawled out of a toilet..."
I waited... but for a good while, Todoroki didn't respond.
Looking back at him, I saw something in his eyes that I never saw before - a glint of... sympathy. And understanding. He mimics the expression I made when I talked almost as if he knows it himself...
Before I could get another word out, the buss suddenly stops. The class becomes slightly quieter as most of us looked out.
Izuku "Did we make it?"
Uraraka "Doesn't look like it... we're still in the middle of the road."
After a few more chatter, Mr. Aizawa silenced the class and he - along with the buss driver went out to check on the buss, returning a few minutes later and the ride continues.
I turned around to Todoroki, wanting to say what I wanted to say prior to the sudden stop but ultimately decided against it as to not sour the mood.
Eventually, we made it to our destination - a local dam which also serves as a refugee camp, housing people who were evacuated from a recent attack at the hands of an organization known as the League of Villains. Even from a distance, I saw a couple of pro heroes in the area presumably for protection and administration.
Mr. Aizawa ordered us to follow him and so we did. He lead us to the refugee camp where we are expected to listen to an outdoor lecture and later on, initiate on a few activities with certain members of the refugees. All seems normal at the moment, but my gut is telling me otherwise...
I feel an unwelcomed presence...
