After becoming the new queen, Cám lived a lavish life. However, no one, including her and her wicked mother, could predict what would happen.

Longing for her beloved one, Tấm reincarnated into a beautiful golden oriole, then flew back to the palace. When she saw Cám washing clothes for the king, the oriole sang a warning.

"Dry my husband's clothes with the pole, not the fence, or else they will be torn."

Then, she flew directly to the king's garden and dwelt there. Meanwhile, the king was disheartened over the death of his beautiful queen and constantly yearned for Tấm. He became quiet and wanted to be left alone. Cám was very upset and worried about this, but she didn't know what she should do.

One day, when the king was wandering in his garden, the oriole sang in the sweetest melody and captured his heart.

Reminded of how lovely Tấm had sung, the king called the oriole to land in the wide sleeves of his robe if she was the spirit of his late queen.

"Oh Oriole, if you are my wife, get into my sleeves."

When the oriole immediately did as the king said, he was so delighted that he ordered a golden cage for her and placed it beside his bed. There, he spent his days beside the oriole as it sang beautiful melodies to him. Cám, whom the king never became fond of, grew increasingly jealous of the bird. Therefore, she returned to her home and asked her mother for advice, which she followed despite its cruelty. One day, when the king was away, she took it from the cage, killed it, ate it, and threw its feathers out into the royal garden.
