Persival POV
We had only been walking for about 10 minutes before we came to a small shape in a faded blue red and yellow stripped hammock. Shock filled me as I looked around at her 'hut' if you could even call it that. There were no walls only some sticks in the trees above to keep the snow off her in the winter, the hammock and a small chest of draws tucked to the side.
Fates.
Yesterday I had noticed the other members of the packs treatment of her - including her own father the alpha - but I wasn't expecting this. For her to be ostracised by everyone and relegated to a hammock in the woods. Anger rose up in me and my wolf pushed to the surface. My fingers elongated into claws and I could feel the prickle of fur sprouting all over my body but I didn't let the shift happen anymore than that.
Suddenly I feel a small hand on my back followed by a soothing presence. Zennith. Taking in a deep breath i let my fingers return to normal and the fur retract on the exhale.
Thank you, love I mind linked to tell him.
Your welcome. He said back.
Through our bond I felt that the others had the same reaction as me but managed to decently control their shift thanks to Zenniths quiet calm. They all didn't like how she was treated and that made me feel better.
However, I didn't have time to register anything else as John walked closer to the shape in the hammock a different shape descended from the trees straight onto his shoulders. Immediately on edge I reached out for my wolf until I saw a flash of matted brown hair.
Katarina.
Like a wildcat she wrestled with her half brother trying to get the upper hand. But she was no match for his bulky size and he managed to reach behind him to her shoulders, grab ahold of them and pull her forwards making her fly over his head and smack on the ground with a grunt. The only reason I wasn't instantly by her side was Christopher's grip on mine and Charlie's arms.
What are you doing? I shouted at him through the mind-link bond. Charlie doing the same.
Give her a chance came is calm response.
I reluctantly stepped back. Being the oldest of all of us Christopher had more life experience. Witch was usually enough for me to defer to his advice but this seemed wrong. Our mate needed help and I didn't want to step back and watch her get hurt... but Christopher thought we should. But why?
A second later I found out why. Because Katarina was off the ground and had somehow gotten her bow around johns neck and was squeezing. It was... hot. The look of fury in her eyes captivated me for longer than it should've. I shook myself out of the thoughts rapidly descending into my nether regions and back to the fight. Confused as all get out I wondered why the hell the two siblings were fighting each other.
before Katerina could hold the upper hand for long though John slammed her back to one of the thick pines dotting the forest and with a grunt her hold loosens on the bow. That all the opening he needed to rip the bow from her hand and spin around to grip her small pale throat in his meaty hand.
Katarina POV
i had heard them before I smelled them. Six different footfalls practically thundering down the path with how loud they were and I had reacted before even thinking. Grabbing my bow and quiver I had raced up the nearest tree, ready and posed for a fight. No one came out here so my fight instinct was up full force.
The first person to walk into my line of site was my brother John. Although he was the closest in age to me and was unlikely to ascend to our father's throne he was still no nicer to me than any of my other brothers in attempt to gain favour with my father through the common hatred of me. He was giant and bulky like the rest of my brothers and he was walking with such intent it made fear run up my spine and memory's prick my thoughts. So on pure instinct I jumped down from the trees and straight onto his shoulders.
That's what lead me to be shoved against a tree, my back, head and now neck throbbing. My brothers hand squeezed hard on my throat and the air i so very much needed to breath was cut off. In response I made hideous garbled sounds and claw my nails on his arm and wrist to try to make him let go. It was of no use I was to weak to protect myself.
My helplessness only made him grin wide. His yellowed teeth stark on his pale face.
"Relax, mutt. Im not hear to kill you... yet. Im only hear to tell you to look after these mutts for today while the rest of us are in our diplomatic meeting" the hatred for me in his voice was palpable.
That's when all of a sudden my brother's form disappeared replaced by the twice as big Christopher, The beta from the Cresent moon pack. That's who my brother meant then. And the pressure on my throat was gone.
"Touch her again and you'll lose that hand" the giant growled.
Meanwhile I was crumpled on the forest floor throat to my hand gladly gasping in any breaths I could.
Christopher POV
Being the oldest out of my group of mates decisions for important things were often left for me to decide. Despite the fact persival will one day be the alpha and leader to the entire Cresent colonies he still went to me for advice and guidance. So when persival didn't interfere with Katarina and her brother when I asked i sent a stroke of pleasure through our mating bond to him.
I wanted to see what we were getting ourselves into with our last mate. The one who would complete us. She gave an aura of ferocity I found quite attractive and so I was willing to give her a chance to show us what she was made of so to speak, even if the sight of her pig brothers hands on her made me want to rip that said Hand off. My line of thinking went straight out the window though when wrapped his fat hand around her pale throat and started to squeeze.
I moved so fast I'm sure I looked a blur as I raced to defend my mate.
"Touch her again and you'll lose that hand" I heard myself growl at his retreating form.
I took sick pleasure in the way he shrunk from my size. At 6'6 I was hard to miss. And with muscle packed on from hours spent in the gym each day I wasn't one to trifle with. The perfect form to protect my mates.
Turning to katarina I noticed something I hadn't yesterday under all the dirt and grime on her. A long scar reaching from the top of her left temple and all the way down to the right side of the bottom of her throat. When looking at her throat I then noticed another scare running from right to left. This one was thick and was to savage I wondered how she had survived and not bleed out instantly.
On pure instinct I reached out my hand to trace the scar only to have her small palm slap mine away. And for her beautiful green eyes to scowl me.
"Sorry" I apologised.
And all of a sudden I realised this is why alpha bella said that she could not speak. It wasn't because she was being insolent, it was because her choice to do so was taken away. Anger boiled through my bones at the thought of anyone harming her. And I wanted to go out and kill the son of a bitch who had hurt our mate.
Katarina POV
Christopher's soft eyes quickly turned hard the longer he looked at my face and neck and I could only imagine what he was seeing. There being no - what my aunt called - mirrors in all of blood moon pack I had never seen my face but I knew the scars were there. When I was younger I used to have my aunt explain my features to me and I would do the same. For me she always said the same: Beautiful green eyes, small button nose, adorable dimples high cheekbones, and freckles dotting my whole face. After I was given the scars I had stopped asking her what I looked like. It didn't matter how I looked anymore as my beauty was ruined by the savageness of my brothers. That's when I vowed to beat them and to never give up.
"Who did this to you?"
What do you care I wanted to shout at him. Why did you do that to my brother? I wanted to ask. Why did you defend me?
None of these questions would ever have answers I knew but they didn't stop forming in my mind.
And all of a sudden my confusion turned to anger and I got up pushing past the faint to get my bow and quiver and without stopping I stormed off deeper in the woods. I was hungry and wanted breakfast.
They could follow along if they wanted to or they could leave and return back to base camp. I didn't know witch idea I wanted more.
