kiara carrera, pogue princess, slumming with the wrong side of the island.

she doesn't care, she never did. this was all she heard since pre-school, from her parents, relatives and even 'friends'.

maybe it stung sometimes, when she couldn't show the boys the new improved beach, since she knew they'll only attract trouble on the other side of the island or maybe when she's in her own backyard and her mom is telling her to get the hell out of her house

but no, kiara carrera did not care.

but, then why was she crying quietly on the beach?

she may have cared a little bit, especially after all that went down these past days. it became harder and harder for her to keep up with her boys, the boys who felt like they had nothing to loose, pope being the exception.

she loved them, but she also loved her parents.

now here she was, with the deep feeling of betrayel in her guts, did she really choose one over the other? that easily too?

her spiraling thoughts were interrupted by a cold hand on her shoulder. she flinched and her watery eyes met jj's blue ones. his eyes were not the first thing that would attract attention to his face, this time it was the gaping cut on his forehead, accompanied by the dried blood in his hair.

"what u doing out here alone, kie?" his gentle tone suprised her, before realising what she must have looked like, head in her hands and tear streaks down her cheeks.

she barely cried infront of the pogues, even if she did, it would mostly be about dying animals or john b forcing them to watch 'my girl' at 2 in the morning, claiming the movie was a comedy.

the sand shifted beside her, signaling he had sit down beside her, she felt a gentle nudge against her shoulder, confirming her thoughts.

"dunno, just thinking i guess." her voice came out awfully quiet and she cringed at how pathetic she must sound.

"care to share with you bffl?"

she felt herself smiling at the stupid name, thinking back of its origin

chateau, 4 months earlier

"so, quick question"

kie and jj were laying in the hammock, jj being lazily sprailed out and kie with her legs tucked to her chest

"yes?" kie answered, passing the blunt back to jj.

he took a hit and passed it back to her.

"we're totally bestfriend right?" he raised his eyebrown, sceptically waiting for an answer.

"are you kidding? j, we're not just bestfriends, we're fucking bff's"

she took another hit and slumped her legs on jj's

"wait, so we're best friends for life then?" he softly carressed her ankle that was now laying on his ribs.

"where did you get the l from?" kie laughed, "bffl is not what i said and plus that sounds disgusting"

"c'mon carrera, you cannot expect me to magically know, plus i think it's way cooler, bffl"

he was lazily fumbling with her anklets when she gently kicked him in the ribs

"stop saying that, it sounds like an std."

an offended look found his face as he threw his hands up in fake annoyance.

"it stand for best friends forever, bff"

"well i now say it stands for best friend for life, bffl"

they both smiled and their stupid conversation when they were called back inside by the other half of the pogues.

"it just, hit me like a truck, yknow?"

she was suprised when she finally found her voice, the two pogues had been sitting in silence for some minutes.

when he didn't say anything, she felt that as a signal to keep talking,

"i really thought i was doing the right thing, with my parents. like, i know i was in the wrong and did a lot of messed up shit but they were going to send me to that hellhole without even properly hearing me out. And now they probably think i'm dead, floating lifelessly at sea."

"damn kie, that's a lot of thinking, even for you"

without really thinking about it, her head found his shoulder. she felt him tense up for a slight second then relax as she sighed.

"you really scared me, jage"

she felt his arm go around her and land on her shoulder, pulling her against him.

"enough to take your mind of your parents for a couple of minutes?"

she pushed him slightly, despite the smile finding her face again.

"that's not funny, asshole"

"m'sorry, kie" he mumbled.

she closed her eyes and found herself getting comfortable in his arms, the way her head and his neck fitted perfectly, his breaths mingling with hers.

"i'm happy you're here with me" she whispered back, closing her eyes and taking his hand that was still across her shoulder.
