"So... I have been thinking" Andy said as they settled to go to sleep.
"Ok.. what about?" Sharon asked him, wondering what else he had in store to spring on her.
"Well, it will take five seconds for the detectives who work for you, to notice your ring if you wear it to work. We need to go public before Flynn Jr becomes more obviously present. Your parents are here and more excited than anyone I've ever seen." he chuckled. "What do you say we make it all formal and final while they're still here?"
Her eyes were as big as saucers before she answered him.
"You mean... get married like... NOW?"
"Well, not this very minute, but unless you want the whole fanfare deal, I was thinking why not sooner rather than later? Unless you have any objections that is. I just think that little person needs to have parents who are fully committed and maybe who have the same name?"
"You know Andy, that sounds perfect. I want nothing more than to make us a proper family, and while those two are here would be wonderful. Everyone else will be miffed, but they'll get over it. I don't like to be the focus of attention, so something small and intimate would be perfect. You need to tell Provenza or he'll never forgive you. I'll talk to Andrea, so we'll have our two witnesses plus Mom & Dad. What on Earth will I wear?"Judge Groves was shocked, but pleased, to be asked to perform the small ceremony. The couple slipped out at the start of business hours, to apply for their marriage license, and to look for something appropriate, but new, to wear. Their appointment with Groves was for 6pm the same day, and they wanted all the details finalised before telling Bob & Stella.
Provenza was appropriately horrified. Andrea was wide-eyed and speechless. They would both attend as witnesses.
By lunchtime, Bob & Stella were wondering where on Earth the two had gone.
Andy burst through the door ahead of his fiancé asking loudly "Anyone feel like going to a wedding? You've got about five hours to get ready!"
"TODAY?" Stella squealed.
"Well, Bob was keen to see things done while you're here, so ..." Andy answered her.
They didn't need to be asked twice.
"What about the kids? I mean both sets of kids?" Stella asked.
"Mom, they'll get over it. It would take an earthquake to bring all of them together at the same time, and with them there's partners, and the whole thing would be blown into some big event. With Flynn Jr making him/herself so obvious, we just want to be legally a family, before our team thinks their Captain is some kind of floozy."By five thirty, they were at City Hall, waiting for Judge Groves. Sharon had chosen a simple ivory dress, and held a single lily in her hand. Andrea was chatting with the O'Dwyers, who were catching her up on all the information she had been missing regarding her friend. Provenza was huffing and puffing about having to wait, but was secretly pleased to be the only member of the team to be included. So he should be, he told himself. He'd put up with Flynn's shit for too many years to be excluded from his important life events.
The brief ceremony was beautiful. Judge Groves had asked them over the phone the day before, what they intended to do with names, so that he could introduce them appropriately at the end, and as he finalised the paperwork with signatures, he presented Mr. & Mrs. Flynn.
The six of them, then made their way to dinner together at Sharon & Andy's favourite seafood restaurant.
"So... how are you going to do this with work?" Andrea asked with an amused smile.
"Already thought of that" Provenza answered her.
Everyone looked at him surprised.
"Do I even want to know?" Andy asked him.
"Please tell me the words knocked-up are not going to feature" Sharon begged.
"I got you a wedding present. It should open the door for your announcement" he chuckled, and pulled his gift out of a bag under the table. He'd bought Sharon a new door plaque for her office.
"Oh Louie it's wonderful" she beamed as she held it up for everyone to see "Captain Flynn".
"If you want me to, I can sneak in early and change them over before you come to work tomorrow" he offered.
"That sounds perfect. Thank you."
"Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, for being here today. Who would have thought that criminal delays and snow for Christmas, would lead to all of this." she said as she touched her palm to Andy's face.
"I should make you feel terribly guilty" Andrea said to her. "How could you have kept all of this from me for months?"
"And YOU!" she turned to face Andy "YOU snuck around with my best friend AND knocked her up" she giggled as Sharon dropped her face into her hand at the phrase.
Stella interjected "Hey, the pair of them are blaming me for the whole deal. Bob and I could see from the moment they walked in what was going on. All I did was tell Andy nobody would be checking where anyone had slept" she chuckled.
"The rest is a result of Bob's need to be one-up on his daughter.""Yes, well. Andrea don't ever ask poor Emily about that trip to Park City" Sharon told her, casting an accusatory glance at her father.
At that comment, Bob and Stella looked at each other and erupted into laughter.
Bob recounted the story, his biggest prank yet on his own child, in detail, including the parts he'd needed to have explained by his wife.
Sharon was mortified at the inclusion of detail. Andy grinned in amusement.
"Sharon it's like I don't even KNOW you" Andrea told her.
"Ohhhh hell. Now I may not be able to eat at all." Provenza pretended to gag.
"I just thought of something." Andy said in shock. "Emily probably witnessed the conception of her baby sister!" Sharon slapped him on the arm as hard as she could.
"Ouch! Did I say that last thought out loud?" he asked.
