The next day, I'm re-stocking some of my books when someone comes in the shop. The door to the store cupboard opens and I smile, without looking around. "Jefferson? You're making a habit of interrupting my work." There's silence as I slot the last book in the shelf. "Jefferson? I-"

Someone pulls at my ladder and I scream, crashing to the floor. This time there's no Mad Hatter to catch me. My head hits against a shelf and I yell out. Someone grabs the material of my dress and lifts me off the floor. I try to twist round to see my attacker but then I'm hurled through the door. I land in the main shop, pain exploding in my head. Someone stands above me but everything is too blurry to see who it is.

"You remember, don't you?" The attacker says. "We'll have to change that."
The last thing I see before I black out is a blast of purple magic.

....
"Jefferson," I gasp out as I sit up. I'm in a hospital room. Why am I in a hospital room? I remember being in the shop then someone came in and...I touch the back of my head, wincing.

"Who's Jefferson?" A nurse asks.

"He's a friend," I say, feeling my cheeks heat up.

"Is he the man that's been waiting for you? He's the one who found you. Handsome, dark hair, nice smile?"

"That's him," I smile. "Is he here now? Can I see him?" She gives me a small smile and walks out of the room. I lie back down in bed. Who would attack me? I can just remember the pain and magic. Only the Evil Queen can use magic. She can remember. But I can remember. And my magic hasn't come back yet. But it has to be Regina. It has to. I lie there, frustrated at being unable to know who attacked me and annoyed at my lack of magic, when the door to my room opens.

"Amy?" I sit up again, ignoring the pain in my head. Jefferson is staring at me from the door, concern on his face. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. My heads just a bit sore. What happened?"

He sits on my bed and I involuntarily move to grasp his hand. He looks at me, a smile slowly playing across his lips. "Sorry, I-"

"Don't apologise," he says and squeezes my hand. "I was coming into the shop to see you and you were on the floor, bleeding and bruised. I was so scared that you'd be too injured. That you'd die. I took you to the hospital and Doctor Whale fixed you up." Jefferson leans in and his lips lightly touch my ear. "I don't know who attacked you but I will find them, Amy. I promise."

"Jefferson," I close my eyes, barely holding back the tears. Someone attacked me. He's protecting me. He shouldn't. "It's too dangerous."

"Do you know who did it?"

"No," I lie. "I have no clue."
