The vessel atop the cedar table was beautiful, detailing intricate and alluring.

Pandora debated on whether to open the treasure or heed Zeus' warning, but the temptation was too much, having been gifted with such a taunting beauty. It was pulling her in, and she found herself bringing a wooden key to its lock.

A soft click reverberated in the silence of the dimmed room. Candles flickered at the sound as she turned it ever so slowly. Excitement and curiosity thundered in her chest, syncopating with the rain and lightning outside.

Then she propped the lid open, glimpsing inside.

Pandora was met with sudden darkness.

There was no treasure. No gold. No jewelry.

A shadow stared at her from within.

Fear swarmed Pandora, blanketing her completely. Her only response was to sit still as the black smoke flew out of the vessel, clouding the room for a moment before seeping out the cracks of the makeshift door to her home.

It was only when the smoke began to thin, disappearing more and more from the jar, that Pandora had come to her senses. She quickly shut the lid and sealed the remaining darkness inside.

Pandora cursed at her foolishness, for being so naive to ignore Zeus' warning.

The beauty had only been a ruse to what was inside.

She still felt it. That inexplicable terror trailing down her back in a cold sweat. Had she known what was inside, she would've locked it up and thrown away the key.

But it was too late.
