CHAPTER 2: FRIENDSHIP
Greek mythology was a bit of a bore. Not because I found it useless, though I very much did.
Every story just seemed unrealistic and predictable. Before it could reach the end, I'd have figured out the entire plot. The lesson to be learned, or whatever was supposed to be taken from it, was common sense.
Icarus flew too close to the sun. Pandora opened a box, freeing evil. Prometheus stole fire and returned it to the humans. All of them didn't listen when warned.
Disobedience seemed to be a key element in all these myths. There was a purpose for having laws: to keep chaos from ensuing. Yet, it always had a tendency to wreak havoc despite all efforts to avoid it entirely.
Yes, greek mythology was crucial to gaining insight into past civilizations and their history, but that was the thing. History repeated itself. There would always be war. Peace was an ideology at this point. Something easy to understand but difficult to grasp.
The truth was, no matter the plans to alleviate it, chaos made the world turn. As horrible as that was, there was no changing it. Humans, and gods, were too flawed to provide order and stability.
I was beginning to wonder why I signed up for this class when all it did the majority of the time was lull me to sleep. I was so close to it then.
Don't get me wrong. The stories were indeed fascinating, but studying them was the last thing I wanted to do let alone conduct research on a minor greek god or goddess that hardly had any impact.
The auditorium the class was held in barely qualified as one with only five rows stretching from one side to the other. Each had three tables, separated by stairs and surrounded by ramps for easier access.
Of course, I sat in the fifth row, farthest from the TechBoard that Professor Min stood in front of in a wrinkled khaki suit. He wore matching brown Oxfords, a gold Rolex, and a simple wedding band on his left hand. His glasses stayed perched on his nose as he peered at the sparse students in his class.
That was the only reason I had not fallen asleep yet, because I was one of 14 students. Well, and because Jungkook sat in the seat beside me. Albeit he wasn't exactly my type, I wasn't dumb enough to give in to my drowsiness, knowing that when I did, it led to snores and drool. I had embarrassed myself enough in front of him when we first met in Chemistry. That was a disaster I was set on never mentioning again.
Glimpsing at Jungkook, I wasn't paying attention to the lecture on Heracles. The Disney movie would serve as a mediocre refresher later.
Right then, I was struggling just to keep my eyes open. I blinked at Jungkook with a heavy gaze. He seemed to be wholly engrossed in whatever Professor Min was saying. A notebook was splayed in front of him as he paraphrased what was on the projected PowerPoint slides.
