Brianna pov
"Come on, Bri. I don't want to miss the party tonight." my roommate, Hannah says. She has wanted me to attend a party since we first stepped on campus in August. It's now November and I just want to focus on school.
"No, Hannah." I said as I continued my work.
"You are a design major. You can take a day off to chill and hang out." She says. I roll my eyes. Can she understand that I want to stay home?
"I said no. Can you please go?" I ask nicely. She rolls her eyes and walks out the door. It's about time that she left. Hannah knows that I'm not a fan of parties. I like my personal space. I look at the project that I am doing for my class. I like how it looks so far. I decide that I will continue it tomorrow. As I put it away, my brother, Gabriel calls. He plays basketball for Duke.
"Hey, lil sis. What are you up to?" He asks.
"I'm about to go on a walk around campus." I tell him.
"That's cool. I'm about to go to practice, but I just wanted to check on you." He says.
"Well, thanks." I say.
"No problem. Talk to you later." He says as he hangs up the phone. I put on my UCLA hoodie, grab my purse and walk outside. I take a deep breath. The fresh air feels so nice. I walk through campus and take in the nice scenery. I sit at one of the benches and take a boomerang for my Instagram story. I get up and walk toward the outdoor basketball courts. I have grown up around basketball my whole life. My dad works for the NBA and my brother plays basketball. I have always loved watching the game.
"Bro, Coach said to absorb the screen not move into the person." I hear someone say as I approach the court.
"What makes you think I'm going to listen to him? I'm trying to make it to the league." I hear someone else say.
"What Coach is telling you will help you get there. How do you think I was one of the best players in the tournament last season? I listened to Coach and applied his instructions." the first guy says.
"Man, whatever. Let's go again." the second guy says as I walk up to a bench to watch them. One of them kinda looks familiar but I can't really put my finger on it.
"You did that shit again! I'm trying to help you and you aren't taking my advice." the first guy says. The second guy looks over his shoulder and sees me.
"Hey, lil mama." he says to me. The other guy turns around.
"Jac, what is wrong with you?" He says as he rolls his eyes. He walks up to me.
"Hey, I'm Austin. What's your name?" He asks. I knew his face looks familiar. He was one of the star players last season for UCLA. He was amazing in the tournament.
"I'm Brianna. I just want to say that you played amazingly in the tournament last season." I say.
"Thanks. Excuse Jac by the way. He's a freshman that Coach wants me to help. He's really hard to work with." Austin says. I laugh.
"I can tell." I say.
"I can hear you." Jac says. We both laugh.
"Jac, you can go now." he tells him. Jac leaves.
"You didn't have to tell him to go." I say.
"It's fine. He was a pain in the ass anyway." he says. I laugh again. Austin has a sense of humor.
"Well, Brianna, What brought you to the basketball courts?" He asks.
"I have been around basketball my whole life. My dad works for the NBA and my brother plays basketball for Duke. I would always be at NBA games or my brother's tournaments. The sport has always been apart of me. Watching this court gives me peace." I tell him.
"That's so cool. Have you ever tried playing?" He asks.
"Not really. I have always been focused on design and drawing." I tell Austin.
"I see. Are you hungry? I would like to learn more about you, but I'm kinda hungry." He says. I think about it for a second. I don't know if I can trust Austin right now. I know that he is one of the more popular people at UCLA, but that doesn't mean anything. I'll take up his offer though.
"I am a little bit hungry. I guess we can grab a bite to eat." I tell him.
"That's perfect. There's a buffet in the athletic center where we can get free food. I can tell them that you are with me so they won't ask you any questions." Austin says. We start to walk toward the athletic center. Austin seems like he is nice and cool. On top of that, he's a D1 basketball player, one of the best in the country, at that. I know Hannah would be screaming if she found out who I was talking to right now.
