Manhattan - Percy Jackson

"But I don't wanna!" I complained to Annabeth, who had just cut off an incoming Iris-message from Chiron. She had stayed the night at my house, and everything had seemingly been perfect, until we were woken up by the sound of Chiron trying to get our attention (well, specifically my attention, but I think Chiron had just accepted us as a package deal at this point. He didn't even argue when I insisted Annabeth accompany me. He just sighed and told us to be there within the hour). And trust me, I know it was supposed to be an emergency, but honestly, I would rather have breakfast than go on an impromptu quest. I could practically smell the blue pancakes already...

She rolled her eyes. "Well, I don't 'wanna' either, but that isn't really an option, is it Seaweed Brain?" She hissed at me.

Even when she had just gotten out of bed, she still looked absolutely stunning to me; her blond hair side swept in the most adorable wave though. I didn't dare say that to her face, though - I didn't have a death wish, after all.

"Fine. But you're driving", I said, resting my head on her shoulder. She smiled a little.

"That was a given, Jackson. I don't particularly feel like crashing today", she responded venomously.

"That was ONE TIME!"

"One time too many!"

"Well we're still alive, aren't we?!"

She was about to respond when my mom walked in, rubbing her forehead.

"What's all the shouting about? Is something wrong at camp?"

Annabeth and I exchanged glances.

"It shouldn't be anything to worry about, Mrs. Jackson. It's just that Chiron asked to see us, and we're just a little worried about what it could be, that's all", Annabeth responded, trying for an easy smile.

"Alright, stay safe kiddos. Do you guys need anything? Should I prepare some bags for you? What about food? Do you guys want some snacks for the road?" She asked worriedly, already walking to the kitchen, one hand on her stomach.

I was about to respond to the food part, when Annabeth elbowed me. "No thank you, Mrs. Jackson. I think we should be fine with just our weapons." She elbowed me again.

"Ow! What was that for?"

"Fun."

"Okay, well, if you're sure", she said from the kitchen.

We took a few minutes to change out of the clothes we slept in, and brush our teeth, then we were ready.

Annabeth took my hand, and we left the apartment to where Paul's car was parked in front. He'd assured us we could use it whenever we needed, and we had definitely been taking advantage of that, especially since we got our licenses a few weeks ago. She slid into the driver's seat, and I climbed into shotgun, Annabeth already starting the car. We closed our doors, and turned the radio on (why not?). It was some sappy love song from the 90s, which I normally would've ignored, but I could hear Annabeth softly singing along, and who am I to interrupt my lovely girlfriend, especially when she sounds beautiful? I smiled softly, enjoying the sun on my face, and taking a mental snapshot of this moment: Annabeth in a Bruno Mars T-Shirt and jean shorts, sunlight filtering through her hair, her sunglasses perched upon her head, intense gray eyes focused on the road in front of us. Eventually, she realized I was looking at her.

"What are you staring at, Seaweed Brain?"

Despite her annoyed tone, I couldn't help but smile.

"Just thinking about how beautiful you are." That made her blush, and I looked away triumphantly. But I did not expect her response.
