The Last Day

She's fighting the urge to kiss his perfect lips,
To reach over and run her fingers through his hair.
The silence is killing her, as she sits so close,
Close enough to touch him.

Thoughts rage through her mind,
Like the butterflies fluttering in her stomach.
Each breath he takes sends need racing through her,
She just can't fight it any longer.

Without thinking, her hand touches his arm,
Her cheeks burning red.
He turns to look at her,
And she freezes at the warmth of his smile.

Knowing it as her last and only chance,
She moves in to take his breath.
Her lips press gently against his,
And she closes her eyes, feeling him still in surprise.

As fast as the moment, her lips leave his.
And she stands and walks away,
Knowing she will never see him again.
Knowing that she'll never feel him again.

She turns one last time to look into his beautiful brown eyes.
Heart racing and breaking,
She smiles before whispering, "Goodbye"
Everything falling to pieces, as she walks away for what may be the very last time.
