Liam's POV

"Five, Six, Seven, Eight. Step, turn, out. And it's ball-change, Step-ball-change. Step, you, you, you. Ba, Ba. Turn. Come on guys. You're sleep-walking on me here. Give me some energy. We've got sectionals in two-." Mr Schue was teaching us.

"Please. Sectionals is gonna be a breeze." Mercedes cut in. "Maybe so, but if we coast through sectionals, we're gonna get killed at regionals. We have got to be on our game." Mr. Schue explained.

Kurt wasn't paying attention to our conversation, instead he was watching "Funny YouTube. It's a grape-stomping one."

In glee club today I think Mr. Schue lost his mind. "Competition. Everyone one of these people or elements was a champion in their own right, but they used competing with each other to make themselves even better."

"I don't understand how lightning is in competition with an above-ground swimming pool." Kurt spoke up.

"Just go with it. You guys have become complacent. You were great at the invitational, but you gotta up your game if you wanna get through sectionals. Split up. Guys on the left side, girls on the right side."

Kurt made his way over to the girls side. "Kurt. Wrong side."

"Here's the deal. Two teams. Boys versus girls, one week from today, you will each perform a mash-up if your choice."

"What's a mash-up?" Puck asked from his spot next to me. "A mash-up is when you take two songs and mash then together to make an even richer explosion of musical expression. Boys will perform on Tuesday. Girls the next day. Go all out, costumes, choreography. Everything. Whoever wins the competition gets to choose the number that we do for sectionals."

"Wait, who's gonna be the judge?" Rachel asked. "Your gender makes you biased." "There will be a celebrity judge." He responded.

"Hope you guys are up for the competition, the girls look pretty pumped." Mr. Schue said walking over to us. "We're planning on smacking them down like the hand of god." Artie added.

The rest of us all left for football practice. Mike jumped up on my back as I was walking. I immediately started to run around with Mike on my back.

"Hey, Mercedes." I said walking up to her. "Look, it's my favorite white boy." She smiled. "I just wanted to say, good luck. With the competition, I may warn you I get pretty competitive."

"Is that a threat?" She asked. "No, it's just a friendly competition, I wanted to say good luck, you know. Cause we're friends." I happily smiled.

"You too. May the best team win." She shook my hand.

"Know your routes. Now, that is the key to this play, gentleman. The receivers run the fly route downfield and then block as the play develops, okay? Know your assignments. This is not.." I wasn't even listening anymore. I don't even know why I joined football. I guess to be closer to my friends and my brother. But, I don't have much passion for it like I do for lacrosse or glee club.

"He's drooling."

"Dude, wake up." Puck said shaking Finn. "I said, we can't let those girls beat us."
