Chapter 6
I was continually plagued by that same nightmare over and over again, no variation. Each time I was confronted by the grey eyes, and each time I fell prey to the beasts in the woods, unable to remember what ever was plaguing my mind. When I awoke from an uneasy sleep, I was instantly alert, the nights events keeping me permanently on edge. I immediatly got up and out of bed, not wishing to be anywhere near the location of my nightmares than I had to. Pulling on my uniform; a thin, blue, checked tunic, a pair of knee high white cotton socks and a small, polished pair of mary-jane flats, I stumbled sleepily back into the kitchen.
Nan was sitting contentedly on a stool at our kitchen counter, eating a small bowl of cornflakes, dressed in a navy blazer and skirt for work. "Morning sweetie!" she chirped, as vibrant as if she had just won the lottery. "How are you this fine morning?" If you hadn't guessed, my Nan was a morning person. I will never know how she does it, it's like she goes to sleep drinking a bottle of happy-juice that passes through to morning. I just grunt in response. I'm not a morning person, heck no. I would lie in bed until noon if I had my way. But no, school has me wake up at the crack of dawn, to do what? Listen to people talk.
I shook my head. I've become such a pessimist lately. I used to have no problem with school, but now I'm complaining like I have a nail stuck in the bottom of my foot. I'm going to take the easy way out. I blame Seraphina. Returning to reality, I opened the fridge and pulled out a massive tub of yoghurt that I eat when I can't be bothered to cook and a small, metal, dessert spoon. I pulled up a stool next to Nan, and tore off the lid. Three spoons in, conversation resumed.
"So did you sleep well, Aurora?" she asked as she finished her cereal. I grunted again. Today was looking like a bleak one. "Can I get an answer, or will you just grunt everytime?" she inquired. Grunt. Shrug. "Just one sentence before I leave, is that so hard?"
"No."
"Thank you! That's all I wanted." She smiled at the euphoria of her minor victory. Chomping down the last bite, she got up and emptied the rest down the drain, the soggy orange parcels pooling at the bottom of the sink. Picking up her leather handbag, she wandered out the door, callin "Bye darling!" on the way. The faint roar of her little car was heard, then faded away. She's a funny woman, my Nan. Shovelling in a few more mouthfuls of yoghurt, I grabbed my school bag and ambled drunkenly out the door as she had, but in a far less enthusiastic manner.

I arrived at school around an hour later, with about twenty minutes 'til class. For me, that was record time. The bus had been practically empty today, god knows why. All I knew was that today was Tuesday, and I was in for it. I may have finished my work, but I did a terrible job of it, my writing was messy, my answers were brief and unexplained. Basically I was doomed. DOOOOOMED!!! Plus there was all the other stuff, you know, Seraphina being witch, me being a witch, being stalked by a creepy shadow-boy, and having all those terrifying nightmares last night. It was just a really bad start to the week, I guess.
I rushed into the common room, my arms overflowing with junk that I hadn't bothered to shove into my bag. I fiddled with combination lock on my locker, wrenching it open the moment I heard the little click that signified that it was unlocked.stuffing the potentially arm-breaking load in a ball into it, I slammed tore the books for this mornings subjects out, and slammed it shut, giving the lock a quick spin to avoid gifting people with the knowledge of my last combination digit. I plopped myself down on a battered blue armchair and flicked open to my homework, and scanned it over, re-writing mis-spelt words and improper grammar.
Satisfied temporarily, I left my books on the armchair, and yelped when I walked into a familiar girl with long black hair. Seraphina. "Hey." she smiled. I was hit by a shockwave of realisation. I needed to talk to her.
"Hey." I replied in kind. I dragged her to the back of he common room and whispered. "Do you know anyone called Adrian?" my voice was low and questioning. I needed answers this time. She frowned at me, but nodded.
"Yeah, I do, he's my... Oh my god, that idiot did that shadow thing to you, didn't he? That stupid, son-of-a-" she raged. I cut her off before she could finish her derogatory summary.
"Yeah he did, but more importantly, he told me something weird. He told me that I can't learn the name of te Lumnien's leader, until I understand the Lumen prophecy, and i can't be told that until I learn my power, and I have to do that on my own. I had this nightmare just after that and I was all alone in a forest, and I was about t be attacked, and the whole time, I just heard this voice telling me to remember. I think I've learnt something, Seraphina, I think I know what I need to do." I announced.
"What?" she asked curiously
"I need to find out where the heck that forest is, go there, and I think I'll be able to find out what my ability is." I declared. She nodded.
"It sounds like the Forest of Thorns... That's where most people go to discover their power. yeah, we'll go, but I'm coming with you. That place is dangerous with a capital D. But we'll talk about this later, we need to get to class."
"Ok, but can I just ask one thing?"
"Fire away."
"How do you know Adrian?" I inquired. She frowned, glaring at the floor and releasing apparent contempt for the boy. She sighed and looked back up at me.
"He's my brother."

Treading the familiar path that led up to the classrooms, I went over what I had learnt. Firstly, I had to go to the Forest of Thorns, to discover my power. Second, Adrian and Seraphina were brother and sister, and did NOT get on well. Third, um, I didn't have a third yet, but at this rate, it'll just explode out of nowhere, along with fourth and fifth.
Sighing, I pulled my books closer to my chest, my breath swirling in a fine mist around my face, as hot met cold. I had so much on my plate, and I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do with it. I squeezed my eyes shut, temporarily locking it away. I'll just get through class, and then I'll try deal with it, bit by bit. Class wasn't that bad today. Maths, and then geography. It could be a LOT worse. I guess I'll try piece things together in recess. Or, at least, I'll try. I turned the corner sharply, pulling over at the classroom and hurrying into the back desk, where I would be left alone, in peace. I opened my folders, ready for class.
