TW VIOLENCE, HOMOPHOBIA

"i don't know if i'm a good person, lucas."

after sobbing in lucas' arms for more than 10 minutes, mike told the group he would've been gone for a while in order to visit will.

sarah asked to come, but mike stated more than once that she needed some sleep. so she went home. to get actual sleep. or at least, that's what she wanted to do.

"here you are, you queer. where were you?" sarah's father drank some beer as she slammed the front door.

she dropped her backpack "at school. where else would i be?"

"i don't know, probably sucking faces with that queer girlfriend of yours somewhere? you little shit.." he slowly got up with the bottle in his hand.

she backed away quickly "listen, i'm just here for my medicine, alright?" her voice wavering and her eyes watering "i'm leaving, dad."

he grabbed her by her collar and slammed her to the wall. then he punched her. sarah cried. and then again. and again.

so, then sarah just grabbed the bottle from his father's hand and broke it on his head. then she grabbed her medicines and ran away from that shithole.

she had nowhere to go, mike wasn't home and steve didn't answer the phone.

sarah knew steve because of nancy and mike. whenever steve passed by the wheelers back in elementary school, sarah was always there.

there was one time when mike was in vacation but steve was at the wheelers in order to get a hoodie of his and sarah ran away from home.

her plan was to sneak into mike's basement as always, but there was steve.

he took care of her injuries and had let her stay at his house for over a week.

by the way, the only person left that knew about sarah's father was lucas.

lucas opened the door and found a beaten up sarah in front of him.

"fuck, sarah, come here." he gently grabbed her wrist and dragged her inside closing the door behind him, nobody was home.

he led her in the living room, helping her when walking became harder because of her injuries.

"here, here. sit down on the couch. i'm getting bandages, okay?" he ran in the bathroom while sarah just nodded.

then lucas came back and took care of sarah's injuries.

"thanks." she muttered, not able to say anything else.

lucas smiled "are you okay?" he grabbed her shoulder. "i know that's a stupid question to ask right now, but are you feeling better than before?"

"i just want to take my pills and sleep." she muttered, her eyes going on and off.

lucas took the pills from sarah's backpack. "alright, here, come on." she swallowed them harshly and sighed.

then he helped her up and led her in his bedroom. he sat her on his bed. "get some sleep, sarah. like, actual sleep. i'm gonna be here the entire time, alright? i'm never gonna leave you alone." he then sat by the end of the bed, waiting for her to fall asleep.

"okay."

and now there she was, opening up about her feelings on max.

"why wouldn't you be a good person?"

"i feel like no one wants to be around me, and if they are, then they get hurt. i've always felt this way, but i guess it just gets heavy, sometimes."

"sarah, you're my best friend. i want to be around you for the rest of my life, y'know." lucas grabbed her hand.

sarah squeezed his hand "i'm talking about max, dumbass." she chuckled.

"i'm pretty sure that she wants to be around you. she just finds all of it really hard to believe. i honestly would too, at first." he explained.

sarah looked at him "wait, you're okay with me liking girls?" she had just realized she came out to lucas.

first mike, then steve, then will, and now lucas.

"can i be honest with you?" lucas asked.

"anytime"

"i saw the way you looked at her, sarah."

"who?"

"beth from maths class."

"don't you think it's unfair, though?"

"what?"

"that everyone gets to kiss in the hallways and stuff, and we have to hide here. it's not fair."

"i know it's not, but you know how everyone gets, and how my dad would get if he finds out."

"yeah, i know."

"i'm just getting tired of it, okay? it feels like you don't want to be with me."

"it's not that, beth. it's just- my dad can't find out, okay?"

"dad?" the halloween that she would've defined the best of her life was going to trasform into the worst.

"you fucking fags! i'm gonna kill you both!"

sarah shivered at the memories and just sighed.

"oh, so it was that obivous. wow."

A/N

i'm sorry this chapter is so short and i also feel like it's a bit off-topic but i needed to talk about sarah's backstory a bit more and also explore her friendship with lucas more because i love them.

ready for chapter six?? it's gonna be a rollercoaster of emotions, btw. just saying.
