"come on, we're going."

sarah mumbled something not clear to lucas's ears on her pillow and hid under the blanket "where are we going?"

"dustin said he and steve need some help with dart, that somehow now trasformed into a baby demogorgon. oh, and i thought this would've been the perfect occasion to prove max wrong."

lucas softly grabbed the blanket to reveal sarah's beaten up face. "wait, this is too much information all at once. what the fuck?"

he then helped sarah sit and handed her the pills. "listen, you don't have to come if you don't feel like it. i just thought we could prove max wrong with dart."

sarah drank and swallowed the pills. "no, no i want to come. give me a sec." she grunted when she stood up in order to grab her clothes.

"does it still hurt?" lucas asked. sarah just nodded while frowning. "where?"

"i would say everywhere, but right now my stomach is hurting so bad i can't even breathe." she said trying not to grunt again.

lucas nodded "alright. you sure you want to come?" sarah mumbled a 'yeah' and they both went to lucas's bike, sarah behind him, and rode towards max's house.

"just wait here, i'm gonna talk to her and ask her if she wants to come."

sarah walked to max's front door and knocked twice, hearing a loud music coming from inside.

when the door opened, she saw a familiar face that came across her not even a week earlier, during halloween. billy. yeah, the one who almost ran her and her friends over.

"oh, hi. i'm sarah. i was looking for max." sarah said unsure.

billy looked at her from head to toe. "hi, sarah." he licked his lips "i would've prefered it if it was me who you were looking for, but whatever. will be for another time, right?"

sarah shivered and looked down, not knowing what to answer. "max! your hot friend is here!" billy yelled.

sarah shivered again and bit her lip. next thing she knew, max slammed the door and grabbed her hand.

"i'm so sorry for him, he's a douchebag." sarah looked at her. "it's fine."

"what are you doing here? and what happened to you face, by the way?" max said. "me and lucas have proof that what i said it's true, wanna come?"

max nodded "this better be good, dion."

by the time they arrived at the old junkyard, dustin and steve were already there.

"dion! long time no see, you dumbass." steve ran over to her and hugged her, but then he softly grabbed her face.

his expression quickly changed as he said "i'm gonna kill that son of a bitch." sarah looked down. "no, no steve it's okay, don't worry really."

"does it hurt? are you taking your pills? do you want me to get you home? i get it if you don't want to be here-" he started rambling and sarah couldn't help but smile softly at him.

"steve, i swear i'm okay. i want to stay here and help you, got it?" steve slowly nodded "alright, but the second you don't feel good, i'm taking you home, dion."

"deal."

by sunrise they had set up the bus and it now was night and they were waiting for the demogorgons.

steve was playing with his lighter and sarah was leaning her head on his shoulder, her eyes narrowed.

"hey, you okay? do you want to go home?" steve asked her when she shivered. sarah shook her head. "no, i'm okay, i can hold on a little longer."

max looked at her and then looked at steve "so you really fought one of these things before?" steve's eyes met max's and he slightly nodded. "and you're, like, totally, 100% sure it wasn't a bear?"

"shit. don't be an idiot. okay? it wasn't a bear. why are you even here if you don't believe us? just go home." dustin snapped towards max. sarah's eyes widened. "what the fuck, dustin?"

"geesh. someone's cranky. past your bedtime?" max got up and headed on the top of the bus.

lucas looked at her and lightly smiled, an idea wavering in his mind. "sarah, mind to replace me for a couple minutes?"

sarah got up and smiled at steve, who mouthed a "go", and sat beside max, lucas miming a kiss and sarah raising the middle finger at him.

"hey, dion." max looked at her. sarah just smiled and mumbled a "hi".

"i just wanted to say i'm sorry, you know. for not believing you, firstly. and then for what billy said to you. he's a total douchebag and i hate him so much."

sarah looked at her "it's okay. about billy, i mean. it's not your fault." they stayed silent for a minute until sarah spoke again.

"you must miss california. and you never told me why you came in this shitty town, by the way." sarah smiled.

"it's because of this legal term called "divorce", you know. when two married people don't love each other anymore and one of them, my mom, decides that the other, my dad, is a bad influence for me. which is all bullshit."

sarah kept looking at her "so she finds another man, with a son, and flies the hell out of california in a shitty place like this, and doesn't allow me to see my dad anymore! so yeah, that is why i moved here."

sarah's smile turned into a frown. "i'm sorry, max." she held her hand. "it's alright. what about you?" sarah raised an eyebrow. "what's your story, dion?"

sarah took a deep breath. "oh, okay. well, my dad and my mom really loved each other. but then two years ago my mom died because of cancer and my dad started drinking. like, a lot. our house is always so messed up because i'm never home and he's always either drunk or sleeping. and when he drinks, you know, he hits me. a lot." max's eyes got watery.

"also, when my mom died, i was diagnosed with a bipolar disorder. i think my father doesn't even know, in fact steve pays for my pills and all. he, mike and lucas are the only ones that know about my bipolar disorder and my dad. i mean, now you do too." by now max was crying and sarah was too.

"i'd just say my life is not really the best, but i'm really glad lucas, mike and steve are there. and you, too. i'm glad you're here."

max was about to say something but then a growl echoed in the woods and their heads snapped towards the sound.

sarah heard some noises down the bus and reached for her binoculars. "sarah, what's going on?" sarah eyed a demodog standing near a car.

"shit! there's a fucking mini-demogorgon there!" she dropped her binoculars, grabbed max's hand and reached the others.

she saw steve grabbing a nailed bat and opening the door. "steve, no. steve, what the fuck are you doing?" steve looked at her.

"just get ready." he threw her his lighter. "no. no, you're not going out there, you hear me? you're not going out there! steve, please." she screamed while steve got out of the bus, lucas holding her back when she tried to follow him.

"steve!" she screamed while her eyes started getting watery. "sarah, he's gonna be okay. just breathe." lucas rubbed her back while dustin climbed on the top of the bus and eyed steve with his binoculars.

then he eyed a demodog behind steve and screamed "steve, behind you!"

in a matter of seconds, steve was surrounded by demodogs and was fighting them with his bat. all of the kids were shouting for him to get back into the bus.

he got back to the bus, and sarah suddenly remembered how to breathe. she took a deep breath, and that's when her vision became dizzy, and the last thing she remembered, was steve screaming her name.
