(Artist -Masashi Kishimoto for Naruto online, this Chapter will be a roller coaster... Welp, let's get to it!)
About 2 days had passed since the incident in the shopping district, Han had a bad taste in his mouth about heroes since that day. Seeing them do nothing simply because they were at a disadvantage rubbed him the wrong way. He had always heard that heroes were people with extraordinary gifts that put themselves in any sort of danger to save people, that they were willing to risk everything to just save one person... But that image shattered before him yesterday. It's not like he was into heroes or even admired them, but he still held them in higher regard than Cops, but yesterday stained their image in his eyes, even of Yu.
Seeing her just stand there waiting for someone else to save their sister while she could have very well ended it by herself. When he returned home that day, he searched for what it meant to be a hero. He saw some people say a hero was "A person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities." Others said it was "Someone ready to sacrifice everything for the good of others." He started to gain some hope after reading so many sites and posts saying similar things. However, the further he went, the more scarce those comments became. He saw many posts saying that the word "Hero" didn't mean anything anymore. That, "Since they get paid to save people, they have a reason too. How many of them do you think to do this job because of self-sacrifice?"
This comment made Han stop and think for a while, it went against everything he was taught in school and by his friends, but it made the most sense to him. He saw it too far often nowadays... Heroes who stand above most no longer fight crime as they used to, now all they do is endorse a product or model, or have some other career that boosts their social status. They were getting hundreds of millions of yen in multi-year contracts to work in big agencies and promote their merchandise or their hero gear or some other third thing. It wasn't about selflessness, bravery, or protecting the weak anymore, it was about how much they got paid to do so or how much it would further their career. Han then remembered the actions of All Might that day, sure at the end he came a little late, but without him, the villain would have just slipped into the sewers and probably gotten away again.
He also remembered how he saved Midori earlier that day, and even apologized for getting her into the situation in the first place. He began to feel guilty for questioning the actions of the heroes that day, but then a post caught his eye. It was titled; "The Hypocrisy of Heroes", he hesitated but then clicked on it. When it opened, it was a video about ten minutes long, Han felt uneasy but still played it, what he saw was the final nail in the coffin of his thoughts about heroes. Many heroes he recognized were caught on camera committing crimes or misdemeanors. Some stole from the very people they just helped, and others made their crime scenes by assaulting people, extorting them, and even... Han was disgusted by these actions.
Even more so, he was disgusted that they got away with it. Some of them were top heroes, others were small heroes in small towns where they wouldn't be caught. Maybe the people didn't know what was going on, or maybe they did and just ignored it because of the protection the heroes gave them. Regardless, he didn't like what he saw. His mind began to race; "How many heroes are like this? For how long? Why haven't they been caught yet? Are they still doing this?" He didn't know the answer to any of these questions, quite frankly, he didn't know if he wanted them answered. Most heroes in his eyes were now just as bad as villains, if not worse. Even so, his elder sister was a hero and so was her best friend, and his twin sister wanted to become one, not to mention his girlfriend. He now knew how corrupt some heroes were, but that was it, it was only some heroes, not all of them.
He shook himself out of his self-rant and was about to close the page when something caught his eye. It was a comment below the post, a person was ranting about how "Heroes only cause pain and nothing more, even when they try to help someone, they cause damage to their person or property." They continued in a second comment. "They should be doing more to create peace and not pain, and when we look at the justice system, they just cover it up! They protect the same people causing pain simply because of their image and stature! It's pure hypocrisy!" Han couldn't help but agree, from what he saw, that's all they were doing. The site was updated, and a new comment replied to the previous two.
