My eyes shot open. I heard a soft voice which disturbed my sleep. When I turned, I found my wife muffling her sobs. Her sobs pierced my heart. Soon after, she fell asleep.

"She might be thinking about our children. "

It had been seven years since that day of the wretched  Dyut Sabha. Our family has been separated from then. All those memories of that dreadful evening flashed across my mind. I got up to drink a glass of water.

Everyone calls me Dharmraj, one who is the upholder of righteousness.

Which husband stakes his own wife?  Who stakes his own brothers? Who keeps mum seeing injustice done to your family? These questions arose from my heart.

Paanchali had made a huge sacrifice by marrying all the five of us without worrying about the society norms. She placed a  trust on us.  And we broke that trust.

She is a fire born. Thus making her fierce and courageous like the fire which destroys everything that is impure. But, she had a child's heart. Her love for the five of us was unconditional and pure.

She has forgiven all of us but I know deep inside that she needs time to forget them. Her scars lined with blood have faded. But I can see the deep scars made on her heart.

I caressed her cheeks which had become moist due to her pearls of tears. Behind this Empress lay a woman who was shattered.

A lone tear trailed down the cheek of the son of Kunti...

Will I be able to forgive myself? Am I worthy to be called the upholder of righteousness? Questions peeped into his heart.

The Emperor who always made the right decisions was now regretting his decision of being humble to his enemies. His family had to suffer a lot due to his deeds. It was difficult for him to let his tears down but as it  started it never met it's end.

The earth showered itself  in thunderstorms and heavy rains. Even the nature didn't want the others to know about the silent tears of Ajathashatru. Then came a huge peal of thunder indicating the rivals that their days to reign are numbered.....
