"Wait, can you say that again?"

You blinked at your computer screen, fighting back the tears that you could feel welling in your eyes. Your friend on the other side of the video chat sighed and rolled her eyes, resting her chin in her hand.

"I said that no one believes that you're with the Avengers," she bluntly shot back, "and, if I'm honest, I'm starting to doubt it too. Like, you've never posted anything with them so..."

"That's because I can't post anything," you said, trying to defend yourself, "I'm under strict rules here," you gestured to the screen, "I'm surprised I can even call you right now!"

"I dunno," she mumbled, looking off screen and twirling her hair in her hands.

You furrowed your brows, "You don't know what?"

"I dunno like-" she paused and took a breath as she thought over her next words, "I believed you when you first got your internship with Peter after highschool, but now you're suddenly," she bent her fingers to air-quote you, "'under strict rules' now."

You looked down to your lap, picking your nails, "It's not my fault the Director's hard on us, we have a busy schedule..."

You looked up when you noticed the faint glow of your friend's phone on the edge of the screen. She did as well, and picked it up. She smiled, "Oh, uh, I gotta go, Christy's picking me up," she waved her phone, "are you coming with us? To the movies?"

"Um," you shrugged, "I didn't know I was invited."

"I could've sworn I told her to invite you," she scrunched her face and blinked.

You shook your head, swallowing the lump in your throat, "It's fine, I have work to do anyways. You guys have fun."

"Okay girlie! We will!"

With that, you ended the call, shut down your laptop, and practically slammed it shut. You thought your friends had your back, so why don't they believe you? There's a lot of secrecy that comes with this job, but you never considered it as an issue until now. You threw yourself back on your pillows and sobbed, the hot tears running down your face for what felt like hours.

By the time sunset began, you were still in bed, wrapped up in your oversized hoodie. You took a few deep breaths and rubbed your heavy eyes. You were still warm and clammy, but you couldn't care less. Swiping stray hair from your face, you looked around your room.

"I need to change," you muttered to yourself, forcing yourself out of bed to search for a new set of clothes. You settled for a shirt and leggings that were thrown on top of your clean laundry pile to be put away, and, in order for you to truly cool down, you decided to take your time putting the clean clothes where they belonged.

Once you were done with the mundane task, you tidied up your bed and walked downstairs. You smiled to yourself when you heard the team''s laughter echo upstairs to your door. You followed the noise downstairs to the kitchen to find that Tony had ordered Chinese takeout.

"Hey kid," Tony looked up from his food with a smile. He pointed to the large brown bag on the island with his chopsticks, "Get whatever you want, I got you your own fried rice and labeled it. There's enough to go around."
