You stirred awake to the fleeing of the mattress dipping behind you. Now confused from what woke you from your peaceful slumber, you rolled over onto your side, blindly reaching for whoever had just joined you in bed unannounced. When your fingertips brushed against warm metal, you opened your eyes to find Tony's silhouette illuminated by the glowing arc reactor in the center of his chest.
"Tony?" you groggily asked, "Am I dreaming?"
"No honey," Tony smiled, resting on his side and reaching to mindlessly play with your hair, "you're not dreaming."
You sat up and practically threw yourself on top of him in a grateful hug. Tony had been gone for days on a life-risking mission with Steve and Natasha, leaving you at home in his penthouse with overflowing anxiety. Sure, he would call you as often as he could, but after the second day, the calls stopped coming. Those phone calls were nothing compared to actually holding him, hearing him, seeing him. You squealed and nuzzled your head into the crook of his neck, taking in the smell of aftershave and cologne that was just so Tony. He grunted in response to your actions, but his arms quickly found their way around your waist. He was happy to be home; you were safe, he had you back, and you were excited to see him.
And that's all that mattered.
You fell back onto your side with a sigh, "What happened? You stopped calling."
"I know, I'm sorry," Tony said, his voice quiet, "we had to lay low for a while. Natasha was shot, and we needed to get her to a hospital, but we had to get to the safe house and call an undercover S.H.E.I.L.D medic in order to not blow our cover."
You nodded, "I'm just glad you're home."
"Yeah," Tony pulled you close and kissed your head, "I'm home."
