Chapter 2
The Weirdo On Maple StreetMy dad got home very late, it was around two in the morning when he walked in the door with water flowing off him landing all over the floor, it was pouring rain and he was out for hours and must be freezing. "Anything?" I asked, but I didn't feel hopeful. "Nothing. All the way to Cartersville." He said, sounding disappointed and tired. "You guys will find him." I added trying to encourage him. "Yeah, I sure hope so." He looked to his feet, "Just have a little trust in me kid." he added and walked away.

"Celia, how'd it go last night?" Ro asked during 2nd block. "Not good, all the way to Cartersville and nothing, my dad seems pretty down, this is really affecting him." I told her. "You really think.. something bad is happening in Hawkins? Like our Hawkins?" Ro asked as the bell ring and we got out of class, "Honestly.. yeah." I said as we were passing Steve and his friends. "This all seems.. unreal?" Ro replied. "In New York this would've been nothing, no one would care like the people here in Hawkins do." I smiled, but my smile faded when I saw down the hall was Jonathon, putting up missing posters with a picture of Will. "Oh god look." Carol laughed looking in Jonathan's direction. "Oh god that's depressing." Steve replied, "Should we say something?" Nancy asked concerned, "Listen there talking about him." Ro whispered and we stopped. "I don't think he speaks." Carol mocked, "How much you want to bet he killed him?" Tommy H inquired. "Shut up." Steve whispered shoving Tommy in the chest. Then an announcement blared over the speakers throughout the hallways, "Attention, faculty and students. At 8pm tonight, there will be an assembly on the football field in support of Will Byers and his family. All are encouraged to attend. Volunteer signups for search parties are still available in the office." The secretary stated, I watched as Jonathan stood there, he had bags under his eyes and looked extremely pale.
"Hey i'll be right back." I said to Ro while I walked towards Jonathan, "Hey, um Jonathan.. I'm really sorry about everything." I told him genuinely. "Yeah, me too." He said while avoiding any eye contact, "My dad, he's trying his hardest. This is really affecting him." I said to him, "Yeah, hey um tell your dad i'm really sorry about what my mom said about your sister. My mom is stressed out of her mind, she didn't mean it." Jonathan said while turning to walk out the door. "Hey! Wait. None of this is your fault." I reassured him, Jonathan turned his head to look back at me, he didn't say anything, he just turned around and left.I can't imagine what Jonathan's mother would say about Sara, but anything to the subject is touchy with my dad. She passed around five years ago of Cancer at seven years old. She was a ray of sunshine, always had a huge smile on her face and had the most infectious smile, that's back when my dad was happy too. It was my dad, my mom, Sara and I, that's when we were all a big happy family, I sometimes miss the big city days. We lived in New York until I was 11 years old. Then I chose to move to Hawkins with my dad, it was either that or stay in New York with my mom and her boyfriend who I hated, so I chose the obvious choice, which meant giving up the big city, but i've grown to love Hawkins.
And it's not like I never went to New York again, I used to spend my summers in New York with my mom, until she had another child and kind of forgot I existed. We receive a letter or two, but that's all the contact we've had recently.I had trailed back to Ro, deep in thought.
"You okay?" Ro asked as I caught up to her down the hall, "Yeah, yeah." I half smiled, but it's hard to be okay thinking about Sara. She had so much more to live for. "Hopper." Steve yelled from down the hall, "What do you want Harrington?" I asked, "I wanna know why you were talking to that freak." Steve laughed a little, "Oh shut up, his brother has gone missing show some solitude." I snapped, "His brother is probably fine. You shouldn't be around those type of guys." Steve warned, "We don't know if he's fine Steve. And you shouldn't be telling me what to do. You don't have a part like that in my life anymore." I told him, "I'm warning you." Steve shrugged while putting his hands up in fake surrender.
I just ignored him and walked away, "What is his deal my god." Ro laughed, "He just likes to be in everyone's business, it's nothing." I told her.FLASHBACK
2 years ago
"You know, I hate science, I don't get why it's so important, it's not like i'm going to be a doctor? Me? Steve. Doctor? Hell no." Steve laughed, "Dr. Harrington.. it has a ring to it." Celia laughed. "My name has a ring for everything, maybe you don't remember... but i'm quite amazing for everything and anything." Steve boasted sarcastically, "Mm not everything." Celia smiled, "What. No definitely everything." Steve smiled to Celia, "You remember the grade eight dance? Do you Mr. Great at everything?" Celia smirked, she knew how much he hated the thought of that. "Don't. Even." Steve said, "I remember-" Celia replied but Steve quickly cut her off. "Hey, hey .. don't say it." Steve said while putting a hand over her mouth. "I was saving you, you shouldn't be around those types of guys." Steve warned me, "Yeah yeah, you just want me all to yourself don't you Harrington." I smiled, "Oh shut up." He laughed.
FLASHBACK OVER
I had gotten a weird sense of déjà vu when Steve told me not to be around guys like "that" and now it just clicked where that line I had heard before.
"Celia? You don't look okay?" Ro said concerned, "I'm good, just a lot going on in my mind." I shrugged, "Have you ever thought to forgive Steve? He really wants the best for you." Ro said, "I'm not forgiving him if he continues to be a dick about everything. Plus he's moved on, very clearly. He's with a new girl each week." I told her, I acted if I wasn't hurt but i've never been completely over him.-
My dad picked me up from school and when I got in the car I immediately asked, "Any updates?"
My dad looked at me, "You remember my old friend Benny, he owns Bennys burgers on Randolph?" My dad asked, "Uh yeah?" I said, as if that was a dumb question. "He killed himself, at a table in his restaurant." My dad said with a blank face. Benny was an amazing guy, always had a big smile on his face, big guy with a big heart. "I'm so sorry dad." I said, "You know, the last person to go missing? Was in summer of 23' And the last suicide in Hawkins? Fall of 61' it's just all so strange. I can't piece it together, but something is wrong." My dad said concerned, "Everything will be okay, you're doing everything you can." I reassured. "I don't know if that's enough anymore." My dad sighed, as he backed up and drove home.-
