“Mrs. Bloe.”
Karina’s eyes wandered through the air for a moment, then narrowly focused on Claude. There was water in his golden, green eyes. A voice so calm that it didn’t look like a person who almost lost her life a moment ago struck Claude’s ear.
“How can you not be late… you’re here.”
“No, I’m late.”
Claude clenched his teeth. It had been a while since he had left the city on horseback. A huge flow of magical power was felt from the direction it had just passed. Goosebumps crept down the nape of his neck. At one time, there was a talented wizard among the vassals of the dukes, but even they moved to the capital at the call of the imperial family immediately after Claude’s accession.
‘An enemy.’
Blood is cold. It must have been the place his enemies would aim for in the city. Claude immediately turned the horse’s head. The image of Mrs. Bloe never left his mind. Although she had rejected his offer twice, there were plenty of opportunities ahead. There was nothing more terrifying than the loss of a precious vassal candidate.
‘Please, don’t be late.’
However, as soon as he arrived at the jewelry store, Mrs. Bloe, exhausted from fighting, fell to the floor and caught his eye. He muttered a word to her, who was still staring at him blankly.
“Too… too late.”
After a few minutes, Karina barely came to her senses. She wiped her sweat and tears-drenched hair with a bewildered look on her face. Because of the constant vibrations, her whole body ached and she had no strength.
“What… what is all this…”
“It’s because of carelessness. Me and Wilder.”
Karina blinked. It was no surprise that Claude was blaming Wilder. The nobles used to blame all the troubles on the good-looking subordinates. However, it was quite surprising that Claude had put himself in the cause.
“It’s okay. I’m dealing with magic stones, so I have to bear with it.”
Of course, Karina wasn’t okay. She almost died a while ago, how could she not care? However, Karina felt the need to reassure this man who, despite his high standing, acknowledged his own responsibilities and mistakes.
“I didn’t mean that.”
Claude had a face that looked really frustrated.
“This is an attack aimed at Wilder.”
“An attack…?”
Karina just stared blankly at Claude. Her face turned all white, her mouth twitched, and no words came out of her mouth.
‘That’s right, this is an attack!’
Realization struck her a little later. Also, getting entangled in a rampaging magic stone can be enough. However, it was impossible for the entire store to vibrate as if an earthquake had occurred without someone using artificial tactics.
“I’m sure Wilder was out of the store… and Mrs. Bloe, who had nothing to do with it, got involved. I’m really sorry.”
“Will these things continue to happen in the future?”
Karina asked hastily. No matter how good the treatment was, she couldn’t continue to work in a job that threatened her life from time to time. She felt sorry for Wilder, but since they’re taking place in Tors finding a new job will be much easier. Claude picked up the magic stone that seemed to have exhausted all his power with an ambiguous expression that neither affirmed nor denied.
