I'm the firstborn to Sally Jackson and well, the sea god, Poseidon. If you're here, then you probably already know my brother. If you don't, I'm gonna advise you to close this book right now. You've got no idea what you're in for, and it's a lot.
My name is Adalia Marie Jackson. I'm a demigod. Yeah, you read that right. Half god, half mortal? It's not that hard to know what we are, right? Nah, I wouldn't think so.
But being a half-blood, it's scary. It mostly gets you killed in very nasty ways.Monsters, curses brought upon you by the gods for making a teeny itty little bitty mistake, maybe a few hints that they dislike you. It's a lot, like I said. But the worst part is whether or not you're claimed, you'd never fit in with the mortal world.
And I'm not being dramatic here. You're probably one of us, too, right? You'd know...
Maybe your music taste was weird, maybe you could shoot an arrow at a target and score the bullseye or hold your breath underwater better than others. Maybe you could sing or play instruments beautifully — to an unbelievable extent. Maybe you're smarter than most, maybe thunder and lightning work with you in an uncanny way. Maybe plants grow to be more beautiful and healthy under your influence and touch. Maybe you're seen as a very attractive love magnet or as a really sweet being. Maybe you can talk to the dead? Maybe you can control the dead... Maybe the light? Maybe you get into fights a lot. Maybe you just...really like wine. Maybe you're great at helping with medical concerns. Maybe people repeatedly approach you one way or another to deliver messages for them. Maybe you're known as a little trickster. Maybe you're fireproof? Maybe you can control fire.
If you checked out any of those, run. If you think you may be a demigod, run. The life of one is scary and it's dangerous. You'd probably prefer being referred to as the weird or the quiet and reserved kid at school or simply sitting in the dark corner of the library or cafeteria, reading a book away from everybody else. Trust me, it's not any worse than getting into camp.
Getting into camp alone is a great thing, you're protected here. But that also means you're signing up for and committing to the life of a half-blood, and you might live to regret it.
