I REMEMBER A TIME where I felt like a stranger in my own body.

The bed I was lying on was uncomfortable. Almost as if it was just piece of foam.

I remember being cold. I couldn't tell if that was from the atmosphere, or the thin blanket that was on top of me.

There was a man in the room. He was in a state of panic, but I wasn't sure why. I wanted to help, but what could I do? I was confined to this cold, uncomfortable bed.

Suddenly, I don't hear anything except for what is my own breathing. I think.

Was I breathing?

No.

In fact, I was looking over my own dead body.

I suddenly felt. . . disoriented.

I looked down at the body. No, my body. I wore a hospital gown, no socks. No wonder I was so cold.

The man gets up. He's in uniform. What uniform, I'm not sure. There's a loud crash and suddenly, the machines turned off. Whoever this guy was put his ear to my chest and began to cry.

Why was he crying?

He suddenly pulls himself together and exits the room.

Where's he going? Is he just going to leave me here? I want to run after him, but my legs are stuck to the cold floor.

I looked down at the man who lay in the hospital bed and realize that that's me.

I was a stranger outside of my own body.

I look around to the white board.

Patient: Rick Grimes
Status: Metavac to Atlanta
Condition: Comatose

Coma patient.

No wonder I felt like a stranger.

I was dead.
