notes ‣ so this is obviously an A Note A Day AU, and if you haven't already, go read it now on Wattpad! Sophie is super nice, her writing is amazing, and the edited chapter 7 brought back so many feels that I decided to write an AU, and because I have no confidence in my ability to write Charlie, Teddy, and the gang well, I wrote this instead. and it was super fun to write, and thanks for giving me permission to write this, Sophie!

"Hey, Q," Noah said one Tuesday morning as the two finished up homework they hadn't last night. For Noah, it was the precalculus assignment, and for Quinton, it was the Spanish essay he had procrastinated on. "I need to talk to the precal teacher real quick."

"Okay," Quinton said, leaning back in his chair so the back two legs supported all his weight, "that's fine. Do you have any gum on you? I ran out yesterday."

Noah shut his precalculus textbook, the sound loud enough to attract the attention of a few students nearby, but not loud enough that a librarian would notice. The librarians didn't particularly like Noah, mainly because his younger sister tried one too many times to check out a library book. Noah didn't looked concerned, stuffed his textbook into his backpack, and stayed silent, not answering Quinton's question.

Then Quinton remembered. "Oh wait, sorry, you have braces-"

"It's fine," Noah interrupted, taking out a pack of Stride Shift gum from his cross country hoodie pocket. "I actually have gum to get rid of. Ava is obsessed with Stride gum and recently made my mom buy all the flavors they had at the store, but then she found out she hates the flavor of mint gum." Noah tossed Quinton the pack of gum before packing his binders, notebooks, and pencil case into his backpack.

"It's flavoring changing gum, from citrus to mint?" Quinton frowned. "How does that even work? I'm not chewing anything that doesn't make sense."

Noah shrugged, zipping up his backpack. "All I know is that I can't chew gum without my dentist killing me." Quinton tossed him the gum packet, and Noah caught it with his right hand and then pocketed it. "At least take one packet at least. No flavor changing gum, fine, but what about Kinetic Mint?"

"Sure," Quinton says, catching the Stride Spark gum Noah threw at him. "See you later."

"See you. Tell Hannah that I'm at precal." Noah waved goodbye and then left, and Quinton leaned back in his seat again, putting the packet of gum in his pocket. When he felt his left hand brush against a piece of paper, he let go of the gum and took out the piece of paper. Unfolding it, he read, "Do you like Civil War jokes?" I General Lee don't find them funny.

He stared for a long time. He stared so long that when the answer hit him, he felt dumb. For the entire school year, he had been finding notes in a different location every day from an anonymous source. Although they had been creepy at first, Quinton had found himself warming up to them. The one in his pocket had been yesterday's note. As he leaned back in his chair, staring at the note, he wondered what the note writer was like. They were probably another student at the school, and probably someone Quinton knew. Though what were they like? What were their interests?

Before Quinton could daydream about that too much, Hannah took the seat across from him and asked, "Did you do the physics homework?"

"No." Quinton vaguely remembered something Noah said about telling Hannah about precalculus. "Oh, right, Noah's talking to the precal teacher."
