❄︎ — chapter 27 — ❄︎

Jang Hanna awoke with the first rays of sunlight streaming in through the window of the unfamiliar room she woke up in. She jolted up, but soon recognized the place as inside a recovery ward. There was no one but her inside the room, but as she looked around, she saw a familiar coat draped over a chair close to the bed she was laying on. On her other side was a heart monitor, with straps around her chest and arm. Other than that, there was nothing attached to her.

Hanna sat up slowly, allowing feeling to rush back into her arms and legs. She remembered the effect the tranquilizer dart had on her— slowly feeling like her control over her body was melting away— but now she felt completely normal. She checked the side of her leg, but there was barely a mark left where the dart's needle had struck her.

She glanced over at Kangmu's coat on the chair.

He wouldn't have gone far without his coat, she thought to herself. He has to still be in the building. Maybe in the bathroom or meeting a teammate downstairs.

Hanna laid back on the bed and waited quietly, idly tracing imaginary patterns in the ceiling tiles. A couple minutes later, the door opened, but when she looked down, Lim Sooho and a female nurse entered.

"Noona!" Sooho said once he saw her awake. "You're up!"

"I am," Hanna agreed, sitting back up.

"Are you feeling all right?" The nurse asked as she checked the monitor. "Can you feel your hands and feet? Do you have a headache?"

"I can feel everything," Hanna assured her. "And my head is fine."

"Good," the nurse said. "Your heart rate and breathing have been normal all night. I'll get a doctor to check up on you and then you should be free to go."

"Noona, you've met my little sister Lim Soohui, yes?" Sooho asked, gesturing to the nurse as she took off the straps around Hanna's arm.

Hanna took a second look at the girl. She was definitely younger than Sooho, but she recognized some of the features, now a few years older then when she'd last seen her.

"Yes, we've met," Hanna said. "It's been a long time, though."

Soohui smiled warmly. "Too long, unnie. We should catch up sometime."

Hanna agreed. "Do you know where Lee Kangmu timjangnim is?"

"Anniyo," Sooho said. "I haven't seen him today. But his coat's there, so he should be somewhere nearby."

"I'll ask around," Soohui promised. "In the meantime, I'll get you some food, unnie."

Hanna wanted to say that she could go down to get food for herself, but Soohui had already left. Hanna grunted and shoved the blankets off herself.

"What are you doing?" Sooho asked as he grabbed hold of her wrist.

"Standing," Hanna replied simply. "I need to stretch."

"I don't know if that's a good idea..."

"I'm fine, I promise," Hanna insisted. "I've just gotten the longest sleep I've had in months."
