"Yum!!!" I exclaimed loudly, savoring a spoonful of strawberry cake. It melted in my mouth, making me squeal with delight.

'Oishii,' I thought, 'this is heaven!'

I was so lost in my desserts that I didn't notice my companions were looking at me strangely. Taking one last bite of cake, I chewed it slowly, swallowed, and then looked at the King's subordinates and him.

"Is something wrong?" I asked, blinking in confusion as I licked frosting from my lip.

"You really enjoyed your cake?" His Highness asked, then turned away, which confused me. But... eh... I'd rather enjoy eating than figure it out.

As I continued to eat happily, I suddenly felt a touch near my ear, gently tucking my hair behind it. I turned to see the King, his hand still close to me.

"Is something wrong?" I asked him. He pulled his hand back and gave a fake cough, which I definitely noticed.

"It's nothing, there was a leaf in your hair," he said, giving me a suspicious smile.

He was acting weird...

"Oh my! Lady Alyssa! It's so good to see you here!"

I heard someone call my name. I turned to see Catherine walking towards us.

Did she just act like we were close or something? She smiled brightly at me, then her attention turned to the King. I watched as she gave him a seductive smile.

Tsk...

Was this why she suddenly acted like we were friends? First of all, she was the one who had been wary of me from the start. She didn't want to befriend me in the first place.

Well, it was a good thing she wanted the King. That meant one less annoying person bothering me.

"Your Highness," Catherine said, her voice sweet. "I'm Catherine Nizel, the daughter of Viscount Nizel. It's a pleasure to meet you." She curtsied gracefully in front of him.

Well, I had no comment... period...

"If it's not too much trouble, may I join you? I don't have any friends here since I've lived my whole life in the countryside," she asked, smiling at him with a sorrowful look, trying to gain his sympathy.

Without waiting for his response, I stood up, wanting to walk away so these two could have a moment. I was sure I'd be a third wheel if I stayed. I needed to say goodbye to my sweets...

I guessed I'd have to walk my way to Moonlight then, because I was sure he'd love her company. I mean, she was the heroine!

As I started to walk away from them, hoping the heroine would try to steal him so he wouldn't bother me anymore, even though I couldn't see her expression, I was sure she was smirking at me right now. The Heroine deeply hated Alyssa. I could feel it in my bones.

Though I didn't know the reason why, the book hadn't mentioned anything, so I had no clue.

"Wait..."

I stopped and turned to look at them. His Highness had stood up from his seat and faced me first before turning to her.

"I'm sorry, Lady Nizel, but I already have plans with Lady Alyssa," he told her in a serious tone, looking directly at her. Was it just me, or did he look like he was glaring at her?

"But I—"

"I'm sure there are many other people who would love to spend time with you," he said with a smile, but his eyes seemed to say, 'Leave us alone.' It was just my interpretation, though.

"Max, please escort Lady Nizel on her way so I can continue my DATE with Lady Alyssa," he added, emphasizing the word "date" as he looked at Catherine.

I could see she was angry but trying not to show it. Her fists were clenched, and she was shaking slightly as she kept her head down.

"Of course, Your Highness. I'll be going then," she said, then gave me a smile, a fake smile with a matching glare, before she walked away.

"How rude," I heard him mutter, and I chuckled. It seemed he wasn't charmed by the Heroine's tricks.

Could his feelings for me be real?

I turned to look at him. He seemed to be trying to calm down, trying to forget what had just happened.

Well... maybe he just hated how the heroine was acting. She was being quite unpleasant, so I could understand his reaction. Even she was getting on my nerves...

"Lady Alyssa, shall we continue our picnic now?"

I snapped out of my thoughts and turned to look at His Highness with a smile.

"Of course!"
