"Ta-daaaaa!"
I take my palms off Xavier's eyes to reveal the meal I had prepared for us.
On either side of the table, was a chicken salad each. Then in the middle of the table was macaroni and cheese in a heart shaped dish. I made sure to drizzle some mayo on the salad, and sprinkle some herbs on the cheesy pasta.
His eyes widen a bit, he was not prepared for such an adorable presentation.
I stare at him, eager to get a comment on my hard work.
"Hopeless romantic confirmed."
"Eeeeeeeh?!"
I punch his arm playfully at the bland yet humorous response, and he chuckles before brushing off my feral attack.
"Just kidding, thank you for the meal, Wave-san."
"You're welcome!"
Grinning from ear to ear, I guide him into his seat. That was the reaction I wanted to hear!
I pick up the steel cutlery from each side of me, digging into my own hard work.
"Mmmm!!"
I make a satisfied sound as flavors dance on my tongue. Worth it!
"Wow."
Xavier also makes a delightful sound, I must be really good at cooking, huh? Unlike some of the people in my neighborhood...
...like a certain cyan wolf that dips oreos in salsa and drowns caviar in mayonnaise.
Anyway.
The two of us eat in unison, satisfied chewing and "mmm"ing occuring every now and then between us. Overall, the dinner date was a success.
"This was a date?"
Xavier asked, breaking the absence of speech. Crap.
A tomato red blush spreads across my cheeks, as I make stressed noises in attempt to take back my thoughts.
"You could've at least told me so I could dress up fancy."
Ohh, that's all he was worried about? I thought he was calling me the hopeless romantic...
Now that I thought about it, he was wearing a plain black hoodie and I was wearing a white dress with small puffy sleeves. There was quite a difference in fashion.
We both talked, gossiped and laughed over the dinner table. Before we knew it, it has been 2 hours since we arrived home, so we washed all the dishes and sat down at the window sofa together.
Side by side,
Just the two of us.
