Branches broke under my feet making a crunching noise. Laughter echoed in the air. I walk through the long grass, making my way through the grown bushes. The sun was slowly getting covered by dark and heavy clouds. No more light could pass through. It was windy and my hair was a mess I stopped trying to fix it.
"Come on, what are we even doing here? Where the fuck are we going?" Katie asked trying to avoid the cobwebs. She screamed when a spider jumped on her hand. I rolled my eyes at her and she pouted like a child. She attempted to put her blonde hair behind her ears but it kept falling into her face. Katie's nose was pointy, her eyes a light blue that reminded me of the clear blue sky.
"Baby, she rolled her eyes at me," she whined and pointed her finger at me. Her nails were always colored black. This style doesn't suit her. She is a scaredy cat who would never do anything I have done. She tries so hard to fit in it's pathetic.
Joey giggled dragging Katie with him. I jogged behind them with Jasper who was too high to even understand what was happening. He looked at the sky like he was seeing it for the first time. It's like he's been locked up for years and hasn't seen the clouds. Jazz's mouth was falling agape as he concentrated on the dark clouds above us.
He dropped the bag and stopped to pick it up. That's where our supplies are. That put a smile on my face. Jazz stood there adjusting his rings and shutting his mouth shut. Jasper gets lost in thought as he just stands there still.
"Jazz, pick up your feet. Let's go, let's go!" I shouted and clapped for him. The clapping got his attention and he stopped staring at the dark, heavy clouds.
The sky is about to cry.
We reached a small building. It was more of a shed full of old, broken tools. A bike without its wheel. Nails scattered on the rotting wood floor. Pictures and what's left of them.
"Watch your steps bros," Joey said and walked in there first. Katie followed and so did I. Joey's hair was reaching his shoulders. I watched as Katie tied his black hair into a ponytail to get it out of the way. He blew her a kiss.
"Show off," I whispered. Katie gave me an angry look. I don't like her. I looked around searching for Jasper but he wasn't there. Fuck. He makes me nervous too often.
That guy is higher than the Eiffel Tower. I exited the shed and looked around. I could hear Joey's chatter about the things he's found. Maps, old cameras, pictures, creepy drawings.
"Jasper!" I yelled out his name hoping he hadn't passed out somewhere in a ditch.
"Stop yelling. I found something," a voice spoke behind the shed. I walked over to where the noise was coming from. A large red arrow was drawn on the wood planks. I gave him a disappointed glance.
"Jazz. It's an arrow."
"Yes, I'm not blind. It might lead us somewhere," he spoke lighting a cigarette and leaning onto a tree.
"Fuck the arrow, man," Joey spoke carrying an old camera. I guarantee you, it does not work. He lifted it pretending to take a picture. It flashed before making a sound. I flinched at the sudden screech.
"No way, it still works?" I asked stepping closer to him and taking it. The lens was cracked and the paint was rubbing off the buttons. I took a picture of a tree Jazz has been leaning on. I aggressively pressed the buttons because otherwise, it doesn't work. I furrowed my eyebrows as the picture turned out different from what I'd expected.
"Hey, this tree doesn't have a rope hanging right?" I asked staring at the picture. A rope hung on one of the tree's branches.
"I'm sorry, are you fuckin blind?" Joey asked and traced small lines on Katie's arm. She giggled.
"I'll take that as a no. This picture I took just now of this tree has a noose hanging from right there," I pointed at the spot. They both turned to face it and shrugged.
"There's no rope, Alice. The picture was probably taken earlier," Jasper spoke and inhaled a ton of smoke into his lungs.
I took this picture right at this moment. Jazz is in this picture. It couldn't have been taken earlier.
This place is for sure cursed but that's what we are here for. To fucking jam it.
