Maria stood in front of the mirror, she had finally rolled out of an empty bed in Jax's room and mustered her way over to his bathroom. The smell of his old spice shampoo resonated in there.
Her once beautiful brown eyes were burnt out, after all the trauma and her body had endured the past few days. Maria grabbed the edge of the sink for support as she squeezed her eyes shut. The flashbacks going through her head of Rio hitting her and them killing Xochitl.
Poor Xochitl, she didn't deserve that.
Maria choked on her sob as she covered her mouth, not wanting anyone to hear her, she let her body slink to the floor. The cold tile relieving the sensation of her body burning up, all the memories running through her mind at 100 miles an hour.
She couldn't breathe, her sobs were practically choking her.
Her ears were ringing so bad, to the point she didn't hear the bedroom door open and Jax came running into the bathroom.
"Maria? Maria?!" Jax gathered her in his arms as he picked her up from the cold floor, walking quickly towards the bed and lying her down.
"I can't.... I can't breathe...."
Jax ripped the door open, yelling out into the hallway for help. Opie and Angel came running inside the room. Maria began to claw at her chest as she began to hyperventilate.
"Quick, stand her up," Angel said as Opie and Jax grabbed her under the arm and lifted her on her feet. They attempted to let go of her, but she almost fell from the weakness coursing through her body.
"Put her hands on her head and keep her arms at a 90 degree angle," Angel said as he cupped Maria's face with his hands," Maria take a deep breath, you're having a panic attack."
"Maria try to breathe," Opie gently coaxed Maria, Jax looked over at Opie as a pang of jealousy came across him. He shook it off as he gripped on tighter to Maria's arm.
Maria nodded her head as she took a shaky breath in.
"Hold it in for 3 seconds and let it out," Angel gestured with his hand as he did the same exact thing. Maria repeated what Angel was doing until she was finally breathing again, Opie and Jax backed her up slowly as the back of her knee's hit the bed. Maria sat down slowly as she gave Angel an appreciative nod.
"Are you okay?" Angel kneeled down in front of her, giving her knee a shake.
"Yeah, I'll be fine."
Angel gave her a small smile as he left the room, Maria looked up at Jax and Opie as she felt the tension in the room.
"I think she's fine now," Jax said, standing over Maria, blocking her from Opie. Opie gave Jax a weird look as he scoffed at him.
"Okay," Opie nodded his head, walking out the door and closing it rather loudly behind him.
"What the fuck was that Jax?"
Jax shook his head as he licked his lips, reaching into his pocket and pulling out his box of cigarettes. Maria stood up from the bed and snatched the box out of his hands and flinging it across the room.
"It wasn't anything."
"Don't fucking lie to me, I saw how you looked at him. Just remember I would not be here without Opie and I do not want you two fighting over something so stupid."
"You're not stupid!"
"He's your best friend Jax! Do you think he could ever hurt you?!"
The room was painfully quiet as Jax glared at Maria, who was red in the face.
"I have to get out of here." Maria reached for the chair as she grabbed her hoodie, slipping it on and walking out the room, Jax followed closely behind her as he grabbed her hand.
"You can't go out there Maria, Rio is looking for you and Ez."
"I am going to my aunts house, Jax."
"You can't go!"
"I'll take her," Opie popped up at the end of the hallway as he walked right up to them, the vein in Jax's neck popping out by how angry he was getting.
Maria walked off but Jax pulled her back towards him.
"It's not safe!"
"Do you think I would let her get hurt?" Opie stomped over, stepping in between them.
Jax scoffed, a condescending smile spreading across her face.
"Why don't you just tell us what you really want Opie?"
Opie tensed up as Jax began to push the right buttons.
"Watch it Jax."
"Jax, this isn't the time for this," Maria sighed annoyed by the whole situation.
"You're just putting her in a dangerous situation so you can get points with Maria. News flash, she doesn't want you."
Opie reached out and grabbed Jax by the collar, jerking him forward and almost dangling him off the ground. Maria's eyes grew wide, grabbing Opies large forearms and trying to pull them away.
"STOP IT!"
"HEY!"
They all turned around as the saw Angel holding Ez up, he was in terrible shape from what they had done to him.
"Opie is right, I think for the mean time we need to hide them somewhere else until Rìo gets off our ass. This bushit can put on hold," Angel shook his head annoyed as he helped his brother outside.
"Put him in the Grey civic, we're heading out," Opie called out as his glance never broke from Jax. Finally he let go of Jax as he stormed away.
Jax clenched his jaw as he saw Maria bitting her lip and shaking her head angrily.
"Maria?"
The cracking sound of her hand connecting with her cheek sounded through the whole club.
"What the FUCK is wrong with you? After EVERYTHING we've been through, you're going to pick a fight with your best friend?!"
"He wants you!"
"And I chose you Jax! He knows that! And not once has he over stepped!"
Jax reached for Maria but she wretched her body away from his hand, Jax felt a pang of hurt hit his heart by her reaction.
"Maybe we do need to spend some time away from each other."
And with that Maria ran out the door and got into the car with Opie.
Jax watched as they drove away.
