Techno sat in his bed, the afternoon light pouring in through a huge ornate window. The stained glass made an interesting pattern on the floor he's been observing for a while. Observing may not be the best word though, he'd been sitting there since the orange and gold light of dawn filtered through those damn windows after all. At this point, there wasn't exactly a point in getting up. He didn't exactly have friends or anyone to talk to.
In the past, he would play the violin to pass the time but eventually, he gave up on it, now it lay untouched in the corner of his room, covered in dust. He too sat alone in his room. A bookcase was in another corner, filled with books he'd read a hundred times over. Next to it, there was a desk with an old, long burnt-out lantern, scattered paper, a quill and an empty ink pot.
He did have a family, a father, two brothers, and a mother, though she had passed. He could hear them occasionally, most likely his youngest brother, Tommy, shouting and running through the halls while the middle, Wilbur, chased after him before his dad could get too mad at them. The two of them tried to get Techno to come out of his room but, excluding a few select times, they failed to do so.
Grumbling softly he shifted, even his bed was uncomfortable after too long. He stood up and dragged himself over to the window. Leaning on the window sill he stared through the window. It looked out over a garden and into the entrance some. His house was less "house" and more "castle". After all, his father was the King. And he was a prince. The first-born prince at that.
He watched. He always watched. He was an observer, he'd watch as the grass swayed in the wind, he'd watch as a bird fed its hatchlings, and he'd watch as his youngest brother ran around disturbing everything in his path. Even now, he watched. He saw a bee as it flew from flower to flower, a rabbit hopped past the path, and when a butterfly flew up to the clouds.
A flicker of movement made him regain his attention, a young girl looked to be sneaking (and doing a terrible job of it might he add) into the castle grounds. He looked at the girl, she had amber hair that glowed orange in the light and turned red in the shade. It had been tied up with a light yellow bandana with a white checkered design. Along with it, she wore a light cream dress and brown boots that matched a brown leather satchel. She looked to be around Techno's age, maybe a bit younger, the traces of girlhood still etched into her face.
She glanced over to his window her emerald green eyes boring into Techno's. She tipped her head slightly and smiled. The girl trotted over to the window. Techno knew he should have stopped her, called a guard to take her away but something in him told him to let her come. As she walked closer some of the details on her face began to show. She had a light dusting of freckles, pointed ears, and emerald green eyes which glimmered in the sunlight.
The red-haired girl reached the window, her green eyes looking over the tired prince's face in wonder. Irrationally, he opened the window. It opened with a slight creak, making him inhale, hoping no one would hear.
"Hi!" She squeaked, her voice was soft, almost soothing
Techno paused for a heartbeat before responding, this was the first interaction with someone who wasn't his family or a guard in.. gods it must have been years. "H..Hey.." He stuttered his response, his face showing his quite obvious shock
She smirked "You good?" Her eyebrow raised "Y'know for a prince you're quite.. well ah, awkward" She giggled
A smile tugged at the boy's lips but he kept it down. "Hm, and you're quite mouthy for a commoner" He muttered, keeping his voice down as he shuffled back from the window a bit though still keeping a grip on the sill with one hand.
"Hmm, lemme guess, your Technoblade? The dark and brooding prince who hasn't come outside in who knows how long?" She snickered
He grunted and rolled his eyes in slight amusement "What's it to you?"
"Nothin! I'd just like to know who I'm talking to!" She flashed a cheeky grin
"Hm, alright, and you are?" He grunted
"Ah, so the prince does care! I'm Sally" she began, "Also, aren't you meant to call the guards or something? I'm like 99.9% sure I'm not allowed to be here"
Techno shrugged in response "I don't care, it's not like your doing anything bad" He sighed "If they have a problem with it then so be it"
"Ah, so you're rebellious too, that checks out" Sally smirked slyly
"I'm not rebellious! I just don't care if they get upset or anything, that's all" He retorted, quite flustered
"Sure! Anyways, how are you? No one really knows anything about you other than your name really" Sally said
Techno hesitated, not knowing how to respond. In all honesty, he didn't know how he was. So he said just that. "I don't even know anymore, I've never really thought about it because, well, I don't have friends or anyone to talk to it about"
Sally scoffed "Fine, I guess I'm a nobody then"
Techno shook his head "You can't be my friend."
"I- " Sally began
Techno cut her off "And no, it's not because I'm royalty or anything, hell, I don't care about that status stuff but it's something else.." He didn't explain why, he held his reasoning as far away from people as he could.
Sally looked at the boy, concern growing on her face as lost himself in his train of thought. His grip had tightened on the window sill, and, without thinking, Sally gently set her hand on top of Techno's. His breath caught in his through and she expected him to yank his hand away but he kept it there, accepting the warm gesture gratefully.
A few minutes passed before Techno finally pulled his hand away, looking flustered once more "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have dumped that on you" he cleared his throat
Sally looked at him, his eyes and most of his face were hidden behind a skull mask he wore. "It's okay, trust me. I don't mind." She took a deep breath "I don't know why we can't be friends but if you're worried about me, I dunno, getting in trouble or something then don't worry, I'll be okay"
Techno chuckled "That's not entirely it" he sighed "but just so you know, you might wanna work on your sneaking, you're not the best at it"
Sally warmed up as he chuckled, glad the boy prince wasn't constantly so.. dark.
----------
Techno stretched slightly and stared in shock as he realized the sun had begun to set, making the girl's bandana glow a gentle gold in colour. They had ended up talking for hours, he knew he should send her away but talking to her was so, well, freeing.
"Tech? What's up?" She turned around, her face quickly matching techno's in shock as she saw the quickly setting sun. "I uh, I should go now."
Techno found himself upset at the thought of her leaving but quickly shook it off "Alright, bye Sally"
"Bye Technoblade! Nice meeting you."
And with that, she was gone. Her hair melted into the colour of the sunset.
