The light of dawn filtered through the windows, filling the room with a golden orange blanket of light. It gleamed off of that old inkpot and flickered throughout the room. It made the papers shine with a soft yellow glow. It filled the room with a soothing warmth.
There the prince sat.
He could hear the calls of the morning birds, the muffled movement of people waking, a faraway rooster calling out the dawn, and as always, he heard as the youngest prince ran around the halls with unmatchable energy. This happened every day as though it were routine, the same sounds, the same lighting, the same brother running up and down the halls.
He got up and walked over to the window sill again, deciding to sit down and watch as the local animals began their morning routine or as those who are nocturnal got ready to begin their rest. His thoughts wandered, first to flowers, then to a butterfly who passed by it, then to the orange tint of its wings, then to the similar colour of the sunset, then. Sally.
He knows he shouldn't, he told the girl himself. They can't be friends, it would only end badly. He couldn't stop it though, she was so kind and it felt so freeing to talk to someone else. Someone who wasn't family. He got off the window sill and found himself walking towards the bedroom door. Gods what had gotten into him, he hasn't left his room in years. He hasn't seen his brothers or his father in years.
A wave of guilt crashed over him as he put his hand on the doorknob, he's their older brother, he should be there for them. With a shaking hand, he slowly turned the doorknob, pushing the door open with a low groaning sound. There he stood, in the hall. Outside his room. He walked slowly, grazing his hand on the wall as he walked. He was scared, hell, terrified of what someone would say once they saw him. The guards he passed, though they said nothing, had a look of awe as the prince walked past.
Then he heard it, the voice of his brothers and his father. He stopped in his tracks, he could turn around, they would never know how close he was to them. He didn't though, instead, he stood there, hands trembling, not knowing what to do.
"Hey Will! I bet I can beat you to the statue over there!"
"No you can't, you're tiny, I'd beat you easy"
"Nuh-uh!"
"Yeah!"
"I'm not tiny thank you very much!"
", Yeah you are, you're so small!"
"Boys, boys, calm down. You aren't that small Tommy, just, ah, a little"
"Hah! Dad agrees, you are short!"
"Hmph too bad, I'm not even fully grown yet.."
"I'm not either"
Techno chuckled lightly, the stupid arguments they got into.
He took a deep breath and stepped out into the room "Your both tiny." All three turned around, shock clear on their faces.
