Ear Ringing

When I was growing up I always heard a little ringing in the back of my head. Sometimes it would be louder and sometimes softer. I told my parents about it once hoping they would listen to me and talk it out with me. Instead, they decided to make me go see a therapist. I listened to my therapist and told them about the ringing in my ears but they always told me it was because my brain was trying to make up for the lack of noise present. I never believed him but I knew my parents were spending a lot on him and I also hated going to see him every week so I decided to pretend the ringing had gone away.

It was still there. Every second of every day. It seemed as though the more I tried to ignore it and pretend it was not driving me insane the worse it got.

After years upon years of trying to ignore it, I always noticed how much louder it was the next day. So I decided why don't I try and listen to it; what is the worst that could happen?

If only I knew how bad of an idea this was.

I started by turning off the majority of the noise around my house, which wasn't hard considering I live alone. I didn't want to turn off all of the noise immediately because I knew the ringing would be too much for me to handle. With the majority of the noise gone it almost felt like someone was trying to talk to me.

After a couple of days of me slowly making it more silent the voices were starting to become clear. They sounded like screams and cries for help. I decided to look into them. I had been told since I was a young child that I have a knack for impressions of people. So I mimicked their screams and then tried to see what their voices might have sounded like when they weren't screaming. After several weeks of trying this and a lot of calls made to the police by my concerned neighbors, I finally decided one of the voices. I recorded myself and cross-referenced with all of the records. I finally got a match when I searched YouTube and court cases.

This person had been a very famous YouTube vlogger, I had only seen one of her videos, but had recently lost a lot of popularity due to a controversial topic they recorded and covered; however, the most unsettling part didn't appear until I looked through the court cases. This person had recently been murdered but the killer was unknown. The weirdest part however was, someone had recorded them killing the YouTuber and posted it on their account which scared all of the subscribers except for the ones who thought it was a prank.

I have always been the curious type so I started digging up all of the information I could on this person and their murder. After weeks of searching the ringing was still getting worse and it seemed like I had found nothing on this person yet. They were well-liked and famous by most people and they didn't even have that many haters that made themselves known. They even tended to stay out of the news for the most part. The only things I had to go off of was their haters and the people involved in the video that lost them their subscribers.

After many days of vigorous research on the haters and coming up empty-handed I was less than thrilled to look into the controversial video. The ringing in my head was so bad I was unable to withstand it anymore and decided to go to the doctor. I answered all of the questions they asked which included telling them about how I've been having the ringing since I was a child and how it has just gotten worse as I've become an adult. The doctor looked at me weird then prescribed me some pills. I told him it would probably be a few days until I would be able to pick them up and that just made him look worried which is weird because he said it was just some prescribed headache pills.

I decided I better look into the controversial video they published. I wanted to avoid this at all costs because watching it and reading about it just made me angry. The video was about the death of a child. This child had been abducted from her home not too long before the video was published and the YouTuber recorded her finding the child's body. Whenever I see things like this on the media it just infuriates me because they never think of anyone but themselves when they post it. Imagine being that child's family and finding out on YouTube that their baby daughter was dead and couldn't be saved anymore.

After digging up information I found out that the YouTuber was in the process of being sued by the daughter's family for showing the daughter's corpse to the world without consent. The YouTuber was trying to put up a fight saying how they were just doing their job as a vlogger on YouTube. The judge ended up siding with the family on this one so I figured none of them would have killed the YouTuber.

Finally, after months of me researching everything I can in this case I decide to give up. I remember the pills the doctor prescribed me and decide to go pick them up because it has been a long time and the ringing is only getting worse. Once I pick up the pills I notice they have a caution sign on them saying they will cause extreme mood swings but I figured that couldn't be bad because with how angry I've been with this case and the ringing in my ears my mood could only get better.

After a couple of days of taking the pills, I start to notice many things. First of all the ringing has almost totally gone away, secondly, my moods have been much better, and finally, they aren't headache pills. The stupid doctor prescribed my antipsychotics. I decided I would ignore the positive impacts the drugs have had and stop taking them completely.

The very next day the ringing and screaming were back. Except for this time, it had a deeper voice. Once again curiosity got the better of me and I started working on impersonating his voice. After a couple of days of continuous work, I finally got it right but the strange thing is it sounds exactly like my doctor. I ignore that and start cross-referencing again. What I found sent chills through my bones. The same night I decided to stop taking those pills, my doctor had been killed. The police don't think that this death is related to the unsolved murder of the YouTuber but I know they are. How might I know that? His death was also recorded. You might think that the police would connect the dots except they don't have the tape of his murder. I do.

The funny part is now that I think about it, the voices had always sounded different since I was a kid. They would change all the time but I just never really paid attention to them. Now I am remembering it all. These voices, they all connect to unsolved murders. The scary part is I have recordings of all of them; and to think, I've been hearing these voices since I was a kid.
