Three, a number that can represent many things, but to you, it's the number of times that you tried to escape after being held captive by one of the supposed protectors of humans. Giyu Tomioka was known within your village to be the Hashira that always protects it, keeping it safe from any demons of varied strengths that caused them to see him as someone prominent. Because of how he would seem to be present every week, you didn't find his presence to be suspicious. You remained unaware of the real reason why he had been doing such good deeds until he politely requested to have you as his where every villager was present to spectate.
You should've questioned why he seemed to be always popping up to where you are at most times, trying to start a conversation through clear courage as he seemed to be not one to do so quite often. Upon assuming this, you undeniably felt special. You shouldn't have given him your attention by giving him reassurance that your interactions are quite okay, and even you found it endearing and adorable at times. The presents he would always give you right after his missions had been an obvious start of his devotion. If only you didn't let yourself indulge with his caring and sweet nature, but it was too late that you accepted his proposal, unaware of his changes.
The signs were subtle at first with him not wanting you to go to the market by yourself and generally not letting you outside with him not around. When you went by yourself one time, he was angered, but he remained in control of his emotions and remained calm once you made your arrival with him waiting for a few hours. He only reminded you not to do it again, leaving it at that, but his threat was clear despite the absence of the change in his tone. From guarding you most of the time to the best of his abilities and whenever he was present, he got too worried that he would never let you go outside and would even let some lower ranked slayers guard you.
The guards were only provided right after your second attempt which was when you were faced with a demon, almost meeting your end if not for Giyu immediately stepping in and instantly performing a single style of his breathing before the demon reduced into ashes. The first one was when you tried to get him to lose you amongst the crowd when the two of you had been shopping, but he easily caught you after he calms himself and looks around. You've been trying to escape him for almost a month after your capture, being careful with each try that there's even a long duration after the other to catch them off guard, but each time remained fruitless.
For your final attempt, you had thought of it carefully after months of acting and convincing. You've managed to slip some sleeping pills within their drinks when you joyously invited them for tea, finding some at a secluded container within the kitchen that had served its purpose. They remained unaware of the added element to it that they consumed it without a thought, leading to them being asleep for how many hours not long after as you soon left. You were left surprised when the villagers turned against you, capturing you by themselves before leading you back to your abode before instantly explaining what had happened to Giyu when he arrived.
Here you are now after the third try, seated on the bed with your back resting uncomfortably on the headboard despite the fluffy pillows supporting it. Being comfortable was immediately thrown out of the window when you're here facing Giyu while feeling angered to the traitors that betrayed you. He remained wearing his usual uniform and haori, though his weapon was not in sight as he stared at you. Even though he doesn't express hatred or even fury, you still felt tense to be under his gaze. It had always been like this, you were unsure whether or not he had already forgiven you, but he would always show you no negativity despite everything you had done.
You remained having your head lowered, afraid to meet his burning gaze as he silently imposes the intense pressure of his presence. Because of your action, your tears that you were unaware of earlier started to let itself be known as it escaped successfully from its source, leaving wet dots on your blanket. You don't know what you should do next, doubting the next possible chance that you would acquire and because of this, you further felt disappointment and anger with what you had experienced during your escape. Filled with agitation and frustration caused by him not seeming to be affected with the attempted escapes, you let your emotions get to you.
"You should be angry! Aren't you frustrated with what I had been doing?!" Letting it control you resulted with your own frustration to be shown when you loudly asked, referring to why he remains calm and composed and not angered by your actions until now, despite your yelling.
Noticing that he only responds your numerous questions with silence, you continued to be driven by your negative emotions, exclaiming your own frustrations while glaring at him through blurred vision. "Just let me go! You should be getting tired with me trying to get away from you! Do you really not understand that keeping me locked up is a crazy thing to do to the person who you're supposed to love?! You're insane!"
"Am I really the one being insane?" He asked after blinking and seeming to be unfazed with your tantrum that he had seen it as such, as he waits for you to calm down and be distracted by his words that only caused you to be angered with his cold demeanor, not wanting to accept the good point he had presented.
You were silenced by it that left him to be satisfied with your momentary good behavior in his view as you seem to contemplate for the current situation as it really is clear that you're the one behaving quite accurate with the description you had just accused him of. Two parts of your thoughts begin to clash with each other, whether or not to give in to his desire for you to accept him. Giyu only continued to stare at you blankly, taking in your state of being immersed within your second thoughts that he hoped would make the path to acceptance of your situation. Noticing that there's nothing needs to be discussed, he sees this as the end of the conversation.
He approaches the door after turning his back at you as a sign that he won't let himself engage in responding to any statements or inquiries. His preparation to leave was also caused by him not knowing what to do to make you feel okay while also seeing this as a punishment of some sort as well. After instructing the slayers guarding your door to properly do their job despite knowing that you won't be leaving soon, he departs. The reason why he is calm is that he's certain that you will grow tired. As long as you keep trying, he just needs to ensure that he would make you return while making you safe as well. He could only hope such day would arrive soon.
The silence was disturbed by your quick intake of breaths as you felt spent with your sudden expression of emotions, catching up the exhaustion you felt from your outburst earlier. Unknowingly, your blanket wrinkled under your tightened grip, disturbing its smoothened state as you continue to think of the interaction you had with him that stayed the same. Furrowing your brows and even though you had your eyes closed, your tears continue to slip caused by your turmoil. His calmness had grown to be your source of fear and anxiety, wondering why he remained to be in such condition despite the problems you caused him by trying to escape.
