IN MANY WAYS, EDDIE was still the same as he'd always been. Even then as Y/N watched him pace around the room, blood pouring from her neck he still fidgeted with the rings on his hand, still wore socks with holes in them... still looked a little human. Y/N couldn't remember what had happened to her since arriving at Eddie's trailer, only that she was in pain, but even this had begun to lessen the longer she laid there, head in the pillows of Eddie's bedroom with her eyes to the ceiling. The covers smelt of old cigarettes, Y/N wondered if being undead was it's own sort of drug now or if Eddie still got though a packet an hour in the way he used to. Growing up, it was safe to say their childhood had been far from idyllic but even so the pair had fond memories of each other within it... even after all that time.

"Eddie?" Y/N groaned, sleepily. "Eddie what's wrong..."

"You almost died."

"I... no I didn't—"

"I got to excited." Eddie admitted. "Fuck!"

"It's okay—" Y/N tried to sit up, but she felt too cold, to weak. Maybe she had lost a lot of blood, but that didn't matter. She knew what she'd signed up for. "Eddie... Eddie look at me, please?"

But he wouldn't. "I didn't call you half way across the goddamn country for you to die in a day. I lost you once, Y/N. I ain't taking that chance again... I— Jesus H. Christ..."

"Eddie, I said look at me." Y/N snapped bitterly. Eddie's head snapped round, his body rushing to her side. He hovered next to her, crouched down at the beside. Y/N reached down and took hold of his hands, warming them between her own. "I'm okay... it's fine."

"I..." for once, Eddie was at a loss for words. But Y/N knew just what to say to this weird and wonderful new Eddie.

"I'm not going anywhere - I want to see that new world you were telling me about."

Eddie grinned a fanged smile. "You do...?"

"Yes, really. So..." Y/N smiled reassuringly. "Wipe that worried look off your face, or I might start to think you've gone soft."

Eddie laughed. "I've always been soft for you, Y/N you know that..."

"Not always." Y/N reminded him, smiling a cheeky smile as she reminisced. "Do you remember what it was like growing up? At first you hated my guts."

"I could never—"

"Don't lie!" She giggled, tossing a pillow in his direction which he dodged without hardly trying. "I used to steal your toys, break things. You would leave stones in my bed as revenge, you put my shoe in dog poo once!"

"That... might have happened."

"See? Wasn't always so peachy..."

"But I did those things because I liked you. I liked teasing you - messing with you. I got older, wised up. Figured you liked flowers more than you did my practical jokes."

Y/N smiled shyly. "I remember those flowers... carnations. You gave me a letter with them and everything."

"We went to the school prom... and I stood on your feet but you never said anything." He laughed. "I could dance with you now... I know how to."

"They got dance classes in Hell now?"

"Don't mock me."

"I'm not I just... your clumsiness was always something I liked. You were just honest, unashamed of who you were. I still love that about you... even when faced with death, you somehow made it work for you, you've owned it. It's... an attractive quality."
