why on earth would anybody in their right mind, willingly move from the homely borough of harlem to the strange and horrifyingly white town of hawkins? i suppose we will never know.
but there stands Monica, leaning against her parents dusty yellow ford fiesta. she stares at the people passing by, trying to take in the new setting. she hated it here, that was undeniable. but she what she couldn't deny was her curiosity.
just a couple years back, the small town of hawkins, indiana was on every news channel. talk of satanic cults and supernatural events occurring in hawkins was all that was talked about.
of course you would think that would draw her family away from the town, but that just wasn't the case. Monica's father and uncle were offered very well paying jobs in hawkins, so it seemed like the best choice was to move. the only thing that seemed to keep Monica going was the fact that she wasn't going to be suffering alone.
her two brothers, Hakeem and Isaiah, were in the store along with her parents. she simply decided to wait in the parking lot. she was desperately waiting to make it back to the house, knowing that her cousins would be awaiting her there.
Monica was always close with her cousins, she was unlucky enough to be stuck with two brothers, so Athena and Tina were like the sisters she never had.
