“The key to flying is concentration. You need to focus your mind on only flying and nothing else, getting distracted while flying can lead to lasting damages.” Mr. Schneider’s encouraging words were swirling in my mind as I was taking flight, slowly progressing up. My heart was pounding hard in my chest as I almost made it to the height of the flag that was waving back and forth because of the wind.  Wind is also a factor to be considered while flying, if you fly with the wind, it helps you fly and makes flying a whole lot easier. But if you have a cruel teacher like I do and he asks you to fly in the opposite direction of the way wind is blowing, you need to work twice as hard. Physics was probably invented because of this, air resistance and all that jazz needs to be considered. Since I absolutely sucked at physics I have no idea how fast I should flap my wings in order to be able to fly smoothly—without falling.

I was looking straight ahead, flapping my wings at a normal speed, telling myself to not look down. I kept going ahead, once in a while looking up at the clear sky and looking around at the tall trees as they passed by me. From my peripheral vision I could see someone trying to get my attention by waving his or her hand at me in a crazy fast speed. I kept looking ahead, trying my hardest not to look down and risk losing concentration. Sighing in frustration I gave in to my curiosity, slowly turning my head to the right to see a person in dark clothes waving at me. I smiled and waved back which caused my wings’ speed to drop. Panic struck me as I slowly started sinking back to the ground, my wings still slowly moving before they completely stopped moving. My panic caused my mind to shut down because I couldn’t make myself fly again, with a surprisingly fast speed I started falling down.

The guy who was waving at me came running towards and started staring at my falling body. This would be a good time to get your ass over here and help me buddy. All of a sudden my body went limp, floating in midair. I looked down to see that I was a foot above the ground. Very slowly I started advancing towards the ground before I was lying on the grass on my back. I looked up to see the guy who was waving at me hovering over me with a creepy grin on his face. I quickly got up to run but he caught me by my arm, pulling me close to him. I willingly leaned into him and his hold on me loosened. Staring into his eyes, I wrapped my arms around his neck. He smiled a boyish grin at me and I winked flirtatiously before kicking him where it hurts. He growled at me in pain and anger. I took a deep breath controlling the jumbled nerves, closing my eyes. After a few seconds, my wings were flapping again as I took a flight up in the air. Grinning, I started flapping faster, without having to look straight ahead with a stiff posture.

Flying seemed like a natural motion after I did for about an hour, exploring and admiring nature; while scaring some birds in the process. My senses were more alert, I could breathe a little easier, birds chirped all around me after getting used to the fact that I won’t hurt them. I felt like I was in a Disney movie, with birds dancing around me flying with me. It might have been the best thing I have ever experienced, better than roller coasters.

A loud applause welcomed me as I made my way towards the ground, gracefully landing on my feet. Andrea, Stella, Maya, and Brenda all came running towards me, crushing me in a big bear hug. I squealed, hugging them back as two more people joined us. Soon probably half of the school was joined by that hug, with me in the middle, pretty much on the verge of dying from being squished. I started screaming off the top of my lungs, which finally made the crowd disperse. I inhaled a lungful of air before walking off towards the hallway that leads to my dorm room.

I quickly changed into my jodhpurs and riding boots, admiring my outfit in front of the mirror. Andrea and Maya were dressed just like me since they have the same horseback riding class. On the other hand, Stella and Brenda have the “Magic Foundations” class. When we were all ready to go we got out of our dorm room with Andrea, Maya and I turning to the left side of the hallways while Stella and Brenda took the right, after bidding them adieu we went our separate ways.
