Dad sat and stared at all the children, he was in disbelief of the horror they've gone through. How could such evil be allowed to exist? He knew the atrocities that man could do, but why on children? He counted on the resilience of children to help them through the bad times, but knew that they would need help to overcome the situation that they went through.
Mom was baking all kinds of sweets. Pies, cakes, cinnamon rolls, cookies, and pastries of just about every kind. There were about 160 children here. They would all get some. Dad was a thin man, I still don't understand how. Mom has always had sweets ready for us. And dad ate a lot of them. As the children and everyone else was eating sweets, we heard groans and banging.
The ones who could fight were up and running for their place to fight. Everyone else made sure the children and women who couldn't fight were safe. We all started firing arrows at the dead. Donny was firing rapidly and hitting a head with every shot. I'd never seen such accuracy. Derrick fired at them and missed a few.
Patty was leaning on the fence trying to line up a shot, when a jumper got him. Bit right in the jugular. I saw him turn instantly. He turned toward Donny and was about to bite him when Rich stabbed him right through the eye. So close to being a meal. Donny got the jumper. Steve was shooting an arrow as a climber got him in the face. They both fell into the zombies.
We were fighting well but lost 32 people and saw 62 injured from bites. The 32 all turned instantly. We finished the horde and were taking the injured to be helped or restrained until death. 7 turned before we got to them. They were taken down. The others were taken to surgery and lost arms. 3 turned still. They were taken down. 1 died but didn't turn. We lost 43 all together.
We took the dead to the pits dug for this reason and were burned completely. We all mourned our loss. We all went inside and locked the gate. Every time we have to fight a horde I try not to think. Well they all used to be someone who had a life. If I thought of that I wouldn't be able to kill. I guess I don't want to be evil, even if only in my head.
Derrick is crying so I ask him if he's going to be OK. Found out that he was trying to get Mandy to accept him as a boyfriend and she was one of the injured ones. He was afraid she'd reject him because of her lost arm. I told him to go sit with her until she woke up and told him to leave. I didn't think she would. She's a strong woman and deserves to be loved.
Georgia went into labor. She's almost a month early. Dad prepped the surgical room. The nurses prepped her for the c-section. Peter got ready for his part. Three doctors and a neonatal doctor got ready for the deliveries. Dad had given her 2 shots of steroids 24 hours apart. So that the lungs had a better chance, since we noticed that she had signs of going into labor.
An hour later Peter and Georgia were holding their babies. Petra was the first born and healthy. Peter was second and a bit slower with his breathing so had a breathing tube in his nose. Both seemed good. Georgia held Petra and Peter held his junior. Dad came in with the neonatal doctor.
Honey and I left to give them privacy. Honey put her hand on her stomach and said that she wanted our son to come on-time. I tried to reassure her that she's not going to go early. She's still too high and a month and a half away from her due date. She relaxed some. We went back in to the room with Georgia in it. She was beaming and said both babies are healthy, that Peter junior just needed a little more help breathing.
Good news travels fast here and everyone came and brought something for the parents. Georgia decided to bottle feed as well as nurse. That way Peter could help. They'd take turns with the twins so both would get the benefit of the breast milk. They all stayed two weeks to make sure everything was ready for home.

Several weeks later. Honey was 2 weeks away from her due date, when she went into labor. We called for dad and he asked, " How far apart are the contractions and we said 3 minutes and then the water bag broke. Dad said let's get her into the delivery room. She asked dad if she was too early and he reassured her that she wasn't.
Six hours later our son Gregory Mason was here. Healthy and able to go home tomorrow. Dad hugged me and whispered that his namesake has a long way to go before he can fill his shoes. We all laughed. Mom came in and held her grandson. Finally some good times to remember. Peter and Petra are doing wonderful.
Peter and Georgia came in to see their godson and we all smiled for pictures. We have copies of their twins pictures and they will have copies of our son's pictures. Best friends forever.

A few weeks later we see vehicles coming to our gate. Dad is opening up for the army vehicles. Sergeant Lowes climbs out and opens the back door there's a wounded man laying there Dr Filbert brings the stretcher for him. Dad gets ready for surgery and they get him prepped. Sergeant Lowes says his name is private Taylor. He was shot on patrol.
