Yesterday, July 20, 2022, Georgia's 6 week abortion ban went into effect. This is another devastating blow to women and other individuals that can give birth.
According to @theluncheonlawyer on Instagram (link above), abortion would only be allowed for CERTAIN cases of sexual assault. So despite me being assaulted multiple times, if this ban had gone into effect last year, there would be no guarantee that I could've gotten an abortion in the state of Georgia. If the fetus that was inside of me survived past childbirth, then today I would still be addicted to drugs, still be in an abusive relationship, and I would be struggling to care for a disabled 8 month old.
I am incredibly thankful that I got an abortion when I did. But I can't help but worry about women and others in Georgia that will be negatively affected by this decision.
