Today was a regular Tuesday. My father and I were intertwined in a way I didn't know was possible. We were both panting from what we had been doing just now. When I thought I had enough strength again, I grabbed his wooden knife and pushed him away from me.
Combat practice. I had been learning it since I could walk, basically. Though it started as some gentle play fights and some practice to build up muscles. I was now at the point that I had to choose a weapon to specialise myself with. My grandfather had his bow, my father had knives, but I had no idea what I would choose. I was sort of a jack of all trades at the moment, and obviously master of none. Though I guess I was sort of better with knives than at anything else...
He ran towards me. He was still holding his other knife. I planned on making use of the unevenness of the area to make him trip, but I didn't know how I would do that. We were practising in a clearing of the forest.
He jumped at a tree with his feet and launched himself towards me. When I quickly stepped out of the way, I ended up tripping over the root of a tree.
He immediately made use of this oppertunity by turning around and jumping onto me, pinning me down. When I tried to stab his belly with the wooden knife, he blocked it with his wooden knife. He got me.
"You tried," he said. He always said this. "and you failed."
"I beat you last time, so shut up", I mumbled.
"Right, right... Let's go, you've had enough practice", dad said as he offered me a hand, which I accepted. We walked back home. During that walk home, I endured his bragging about "when I was your age, I beat up Grimm thrice my size!" and other things like that.
The first Grimm attack was a very minor one. Just one beowolf. Trillium and Asarum were already fighting each other, so they wouldn't bother fighting it. Someone had to kill it, before it actually caused damage. Just when I was about to get my weapon (I had settled for some sort of katana), I saw Christa, my younger sister, a tiny albino fox-faunus, rush towards it. I was roughly two years older.
I wanted to warn her, since she wasn't carrying a weapon, but before I could, she punched the beowolf. The sound of lightning striking would have surprised me if it had been my first time seeing her use Dust. The beast burst open, limbs flying everywhere, and immediately started to evaporate.
"Idiot! You could have died!", I yelled at her.
"But I thought...", she mumbled.
"Ah, fine. You did good, I guess...", I said as I saw her hurt look.
"Lady Christa, lady Risper," Asarum said, using his annoying posh-like, archaic voice. "our parents have sent us nourishment." I forgave him since he was carrying a plate with chocolate cookies, my favourite. I ran towards him, grabbed some cookies, and stuffed them in my mouth.
It wasn't Christa's favourite (she was more of a strawberry fan), but she wanted some anyway. She trotted to her brother.
"There, there..." He handed her a cookie, which she immediately nibbled on. He petted her head. He was very fond of her.
I hissed and walked off with some more cookies. He annoyed me. His everything did. Why did he talk like that? Show-off.
Then suddenly, my hero appeared. Trillium flying-kicked Asarum, sending him flying.
"Don't you run away from me, Asapoop! You coward!", he yelled at him.
"Trillium! Begone!", Asa cried back at him as he got up, getting a handful of sand as improvised weapon.
I didn't bother stopping them. Some adult would probably do that. I walked on to anywhere away from them.
