I sat on the bench in the park, reading The Fault In Our Stars, minding my business. It was May 25th, and I had just gotten out of school for the summer, and I was glad to be out of that hellhole. I got to the end of the chapter when I decided to stop, I laid my feet up against the armrest, and laid my head on the other. I looked up at the sky, into the clouds. I stared at them for so long that I started to shape them into various things, dinosaurs, butterflies, rabbits, the like. I felt something touching my foot and I looked down to see a Labrador. It was brown, and just a puppy. I sat up and started to pet it. I looked around and when I saw no one, I took the leash and walked around to try to find the owner. I walked about the park for two more hours and couldn't find the owner anywhere. I checked the tags, but when I called the number, nobody answered. What the hell am I going to do?
Just as I was about the give up, and let the dog go free, someone ran up behind me. "Oh my God, thank you so much. This is my dog." The voice was deep, gravely, and to be honest, kind of hot. I turned around, to see a boy, looking near my age. He had dark brownish, blonde hair, deep chocolate eyes, that of his dog's fur. He was fairly taller to me, to such a degree that I had to crane my neck to look at him. "Oh, yeah... um, here you go," I said, handing him the leash. "Thanks! I really appreciate it; I was really getting worried." He smiled, and his eyes and nose crinkled when he smiled, it was really quite cute. I gave a smile back, "Of course! Don't worry, we've just been walking around here for the past... what? Two hours." "At least she got her walk in for the day." He laughed, and his laugh made me giggle. I felt my cheeks get hot, and I untucked the hair from behind my ears, trying to hide my obvious blush. "Well... I'll see you around!" I smiled and started slowly backing up. "Yeah, yeah. Bye, have a good one!" He waved. "You too! Goodbye." I turned and started towards home.
The whole ten-minute walk to our apartment, all I could think about was him. The way he looked at me, the way he only focused on me the whole conversation. I mean, it was just common human courtesy, right? Right. He was just being nice. I unlocked the door, and saw my dad asleep in his chair, the TV blasting with some random cop show. I turned the TV off and threw a blanket over him. I went to the fridge, and got some leftover pizza and Dr. Pepper, and went to my room. I got on my laptop and just talked to some people on Discord. I found myself slowly falling asleep, so I turned out the lights and went to bed.
