Irresistible Little Things - A One Direction Love Story

Chapter 5

*Sophia's POV* 

I laugh at everyone as they all jump and run around getting ready to go on the beach and have a campfire, as Liam had suggested.  

'Guys I'll meet you out there!' Niall shouts as he heads off in the other direction, towards the bedrooms 

'Where are you going?' Mae shouts after him 

'It's a surprise! Go on, I said I'll meet you out there' he calls back to her. 

Just as he finishes shouting back to us, everyone runs outside and settles down on the sand and wait for Niall. He actually catches up with me as I'm walking behind everyone, I don't agree with running. To me, it's only acceptable if you're a small child or you're about to miss the bus. 

As Niall slows down next to me and starts to walk at the same slow, steady pace as me I notice that he's carrying his guitar but just as I go to mention it, we're on the beach with the others and Mae  beats me to it 

'Why'd you bring your guitar Ni?' she asks smiling at him 

Returning the smile he goes and sits next to her and says 'It's not a real party without music now is it?' 

'He's got a point there Mae' I say winking as I go to sit next to Harry 

'Whatever Sophia' she says sarcastically, rolling her eyes at me.

*Mae's POV*

'What shall we sing then?' Liam smiles at everyone waiting for a reply.

I put some more wood on the fire then reply 'something by Ed Sheeran!'

Ed Sheeran is one of my favourite artists, his lyrics are so so perfect in every way. Ugh I just love Ed!

Everyone agrees with my choice of 'kiss me', my favourite song. Niall strums at his guitar and we all wait for the verse.

Niall goes for the verse solo. 'Settle down with me, cover me up, cuddle me in, lie down with me and hold me, in your arms, and my hearts against your chest, my lips pressed to your neck, I'm falling or your eyes, but they don't know me yet, and with the feeling I'll forget, I'm in love now'

Oh my fuck (excuse the language), no words can describe how perfect this is. Niall's voice is truly like an angel. God he's so perfect. Wait what are you doing Mae?! Niall's your best friend and has been for years, you can't like him! Snap out of it!

'Kiss me like you wanna be loved, wanna be loved, wanna be loved, this feels like falling in love, falling in love' we all softly sing as we finish the song. It's silent for a few seconds, we're all just staring at the fire. God knows what everyone's thinking. After a good 5 minutes of the waves crashing behind us, Sophia finally pipes in, 

'That was so perfect everyone!' The group smiles and nods in agreement.

It has been about an hour of more singing and talking round the fire before we split off. Some of us go inside, others stay on the beautiful beach. I'm walking along the sand, it tickling me between my toes. I then plant myself next to the shore, looking out onto the moonlit sea.

I cant even believe how lucky I am. With my 6 best friends in LA, in the most gorgeous house we could ever ask for and with a private beach. I can't wait for the next month and a bit, its going to be amazing!

*Niall's POV*

Y'no when you think about every single part of some one and think how much they mean to you? Maybe you do maybe you don't, I don't know. But yeah, I'm literally thinking about this with Mae. I don't know whats happened lately, she just has this affect on me, I realise she means so much to me, she really does.

I mean I've been friends with her since nursery, so of course she does. But I suppose I've never  properly thought about it before. Execpt for that one time... God knows what I'd ever do without her. Yeah I'd have the boys and Sophia, but she's different.

Her eyes, her smile, her personality, her sense of humor, everything about her, I love. Wait, am I seriously thinking about Mae in this way? I cant! She's my best friend, she'll never like me back! What am I thinking?

After the long argument with myself, I decide to talk to someone who isn't myself. I can see Mae sitting on the shore just looking out into the sea. I run up to where she's sat and plop myself next to her.

'Hey!' She smiles brightly at me.  

'What are you looking at?' I ask her. I lay next to her and look at the stars. She lays next to me as I move my arm so its around her.

'I was just thinking how lucky we are y'no? We're here in the house near the beach and everything's so perfect.' She looks up at me, I nod and look in her eyes 'and I'm sitting here with my best friend under the stars, what could be better?'

Great, friend zoned.

'Yeah, it cant get any better at the moment' I smile down at her.

She rolls over now facing me. 'I never knew you could sing that well Ni!' my cheeks are going redder by the minute, god your embarrassing yourself Niall!

'Thanks Mae, I wish I could say the same' I say winking at her. Lets say Mae's strong point isn't singing, she loves singing, but she literally sounds like a dying cat. She knows it too luckily, she makes fun of herself too, which is great.

Mae playfully punches my shoulder. She then lays down next to me again, I bought both arms around her and she buries her face into my neck. We stay like this for ages, before she finally whispers 'I love you Niall'

My heart is beating so fast. Of course she only means it as friends. But I want it to be more, I want her to truly love me. She'll never like me back though. I put my feelings to the back of my head and reply 'I love you too Mae'

If only.

*Liam's POV*

I look out of the floor length window at the back of the house and I can see Mae and Niall cuddling near the shore. Somethings going on between them! They look like a couple all the time, anyone would mistake them for one!

I scan around the beach and then I see Sophia and Harry sitting together talking, both looking into each others eyes. With them two, I think they both like each other, they just don't know it yet!

I feel a hand on my shoulder and  turn round quickly to reveal a puzzled Zayn.

'What you thinking about Liam?' Zayn asks me.

'You see Niall and Mae over there?' Zayn's eyes hover over to where they are laying

'Aww yeah?' He smiles.

'Cute right?! I think Niall really likes her, like really likes her'

'Yeah he's always so happy when she's about. I think Mae likes him though too'

'Could it even be love?' I ask

'Looks like it to me, they just have to realise it!' Zayn says. With that he leaves. How can I make them realise?!
