It was the day after Homelander's big speech and I was sort of shocked, but not as much as I probably should have been. The people loved him. Everyone saw his speech as that of a man in power speaking the truth, and I couldn't even blame anyone.
I walked up to Homelander's office and knocked on the door to see him sitting alone.
"Knock Knock." I said as I knocked on the open door.
"Metallic." Homelander responded.
"Homelander, I've just come over to congratulate you on your great speech and the great reception it's been having."
"Is that it?" Homelander asked, although in what seemed to be a brighter mood than any time that I had interacted with him in the last year.
"Yes sir, that's everything. Have a good day." I closed and turned to leave having finished my statement.
I had accomplished my task in coming to see Homelander and was happy with what I saw. He was as crazy as ever but he didn't seem to have decided to screw the world and blow up a city or three.
While I was slightly disappointed that the world now loved Homelander more then ever before, I was even more relieved that Homelander was still reliant on that love.
After leaving Homelander I went over to talk to someone who was basically my best friend at this point, Queen Maeve. I flew over to her apartment and sat down in her kitchen in front of her.
"So, how was he?" She asked anxiously.
"Stable." I replied and watched as she sighed in relief. While she tried to not show it she was extremely worried about how Homelander was going to react, after his episode yesterday.
"In fact, he seems to be in a very good mood, which could be a good thing."
"Ha, that won't last." Queen Maeve let out a stressed out laugh, knowing Homelander only got worse as time went on, not better.
I sighed at her reply, "No, probably not. Anyways, any news about the weapon?"
My question was met with a tense reply, "My people are working on it now. The mystery behind Soldier Boys death should be revealed soon."
"Good." I replied.
Then I was just sitting there awkwardly with my friend Queen Maeve unsure of what to discuss after the intense discussion about Homelander.
"So, what do you think about the selection for the new member of the 7. You got any favorites?"
Queen Maeve looked at me like she was trying to unravel the mystery that was my mind. It was like she couldn't help but wonder why I was asking that question.
She then laughed, this time a real light hearted laugh. "Nope, I don't have any favorites. I haven't really been paying too much attention. Although I've heard that one of them used to be Starlight's old squeeze."
I laughed with her, "Yea, I've heard the same. You think she might pick him because of that?"
"Oh Starlight... probably not, not consciously anyways. She's always trying to be the hero... like there is such a thing." Queen Maeve said, sounding sarcastic and mumbling the last part.
I understood what she was saying, and was honestly disappointed to hear it from Queen Maeve.
"Come on Maeve, what do you think we're doing here trying to stop Homelander? Why do you think we're doing this? It's because we're heroes."
Queen Maeve looked at me with that same look of wanting to understand what was going on in my head, "You still believe all of that hero stuff, don't you?"
