The day everything changed

It was a normal day in the Harrington household. Mom headed to the office, Dad was gone for a business trip and Steve was banging on my door for me to wake up and get dressed. Steve had to take me to school every morning. I asked my parents if I could ride my bike like my friends but they don't want me to go missing like Will Byers did three years ago.

"Y/N you're going to be late for the 50th time this week! Can you please hurry up, I still have to pick up Robin." Steve screamed. He was literary so annoying. If I didn't already mention it, Steve protects me over any situation, like if I went over a friends house he would have to know who it was and if a boy was going. That's why he doesn't know I'm dating Mike Wheeler. Mike and I have been together for almost a year. Steve will totally flip if he knew I was dating Mike. He hates him, it's also awkward because Steve dated Nancy for awhile before she left him for Johnathan. So that's basically all, so let me get ready now.

"Omg finally. Take like a bag of chips out of the pantry and lets go." Steve grabbed his keys and made sure I followed him out the door.

"Why do we have to get Robin all the time," I stare at my brother as he backs out of the driveway, "I mean isn't she old enough to drive? And besides it's not like you're dating her." I watch him as he gives me a stfu look.

"Listen, Robin is my friend and I can take her if i want.  Also if she weren't lesbian I'd most likely be dating her. So get ready to jump in the back seat cause we're about to pull in her driveway." He gives me a little smirk as I opened my door to get in the back seat. I hated sitting back here but I had no choice.

"Hey big and little Harrington's, hows your days going?" Robin sits down and buckles herself. I never had a problem with her, I just liked annoying Steve. After about five minutes robin opens her bag and pulls out makeup, which is unusual for her.

"Robin, Vicky will like you trust me. Stop trying to show off to her, if she really likes you she won't care if you have makeup on or not." Steve watches Robin put on some mascara.

"Steve it's different. If I ask a guy out and they say no it's not a big deal but if I ask Vicky out and she says no it's a huge deal, by the next day I'll be the laughing stalk of the school." Robin continues to put on her makeup and after three more minutes of them going back and forth we finally get to school.

"Okay bye Y/N be safe. Don't talk to any boys please and thank you!" Steve waves goodbye and I turn to roll my eyes. I walked over to the bike rack where Mike waited for me every morning.

"Good morning Y/N, how did you sleep?" Mike said staring into my eyes.

"I slept good. Thanks for asking." I looked around before giving Mike a little kiss on the cheek.

"Good to hear! Oh we have to go to the gym because the basketball championship is tonight." Mike exclaimed

"I totally forgot. Shit my brothers going to be there. We have to keep calm there." I looked at Mike worrying that my brother will figure out Mike and I are a thing.

"We will be fine. Come on lets head to the gym." I follow Mike and we walk over before we see my brother. He's with a random girl I've never seen before, I mean I'm used to it. He's so desprit  for a girlfriend, but I don't think he's ever gotten over Nancy.

Mike and I find a seat away from my brother. As we sit down Mike grabs my hand. My face turns to a light pink and Mike starts to laugh. After a couple minutes I see Dustin and Max come over to sit with us. Dustin is super close to my brother, so Mike and I never told him we're dating. Max already caught on so she's the only one who knows.

After Will and Eleven moved, Mike figured it was time for him and Eleven to break up. She didn't take the news well and go very mad. So she will not know that Mike and I are a thing, but we did tell Will and he was happy for us.

After awhile the prep rally finally started. All the cheerleaders ran out and did their flips, I was always jealous of Chrissy because she was so pretty but after awhile I got over it.  Then suddenly Jason, the best basketball player in Hawkins high school came out and give a huge speech about what happened last year.

I mean last year was horrible. Steve, Robin, Dustin, Erica and I got stuck in a Russian elevator which was horrible. I had a huge crush on Mike who was already dating someone and oh how could I forget! I almost got killed by the mindflyer. Like how fun was that! It was very sad to watch Billy sacrifice himself for Eleven. I wasn't sad about him dying it was sad to watch Max sob over his dead body. After that night Max changed. Max and I were very close. After Billy died I knew something was wrong with her. She was really depressed but I didn't ask about it because I didn't want to make it worse.

Anyways, enough day dreaming lets focus on the prep rally. Everything was going great, Mike and I were still holding hands but obviously trying to hide it and we watched Lucas run into the gym wearing his basketball jersey and sweatpants. Until this bitch behind us yelled,

"OMG Y/N AND MIKE ARE HOLDING HANDS!!" I watched as everyone turned to us, even my brother.

My heart fell out of it's socket. My brother got up and started walking towards us. I also saw Nancy sprint over.

"Y/N what the hell is going on. I told you I have to approve if you liked someone." I heard Steve yell.

"Mike what is going on between you two. What happened to El?" Nancy stared at us.

"It's not a big deal. Gosh I can date who I want without you knowing. Just leave us alone Steve." I grabbed Mikes hand and we ran out of the gym. I was full of embarrassment.

"Y/N when we get home we're going to have a long talk-" Before Steve could finish Mike and I were already grabbing his bike so we could go to his house. I got on his pegs and we rode off.
