"And so she moved in?" I nodded, though Blake couldn't see that through the phone.
"She moved in," I confirmed.
Just an hour earlier had Rose's clothes and important personal belongings been brought to my penthouse—Well, I guess it was our penthouse now. She needed her own closet, mine wasn't nearly enough for the amount of dresses and shoes she owned. Her favourites were in my dressing room though.
She was still sorting through them.
"Is she hot?" Blake asked, and I just bet he was eager to receive an answer.
"Blake, please." Blake was my twin brother. We were always really close, even more so when my family decided to disown him. He knew Rose, obviously, but he never really cared much for her as he was more interested in ice hockey rather than people. Though I knew he hadn't seen her just as long as I hadn't.
"It's a justified question, Kee. I've got to know if my best friend is to marry a hot woman or if I have to pretend like he is so said best friend believes he does." I didn't know if I wanted to kill him, or kiss his ass for this comment. I never knew with him.
Blake was a mystery to me. Not like Rose was. I knew the guy, sometimes even a little too well. But his taste and actions were questionable. He was always on my side, and sure would gaslight me into finding Rose hot if I needed him to.
Which brought me back to my question; Do I murder him, or kiss his ass for being a great brother?
"Best friend?" I laughed. "I'm your brother."
"Like I said, my best friend, Kee." He sighed all dramatically, like the fact that I didn't understand right away was truly hurtful. "Now, answer my question. Is she hot?"
Rose was beautiful. She was everything I didn't know I could ever want in a woman—appearance wise. But I didn't want to narrow her down to only her looks. Anyone could find someone attractive, doesn't make them hot though.
To me, even small things were considered hot. Like spending time together or having deep conversations. Getting along. It was worth more than any face could ever be.
"She's pretty, yes," I ended up saying.
I looked at my computer screen just in time to see a new email pop up in my inbox. The email was from Rose's father, and had I not known what he could possibly want from me, I would've cut my phone call short to read the mail. But I was in no hurry.
"Stop by sometime, alright? Give her a couple of days to get used to her new home though, please," I said.
Blake laughed, but I wasn't sure why. Like I said, he was a mystery to me. "Sure thing. I'll bring Ella and Sadie."
"You do that." Ella was Blake's wife. They had gotten married quite young, around the age of nineteen. Truthfully, I never understood how one could know another person was made for them at such a young age, but they were lucky to have found one another.
For years I had envied their bond. I wasn't jealous in the sense that I wanted to be with either of them, but I envied what they had.
Yes, I was okay with spending the rest of my life all by myself, have occasional hookups and live my days like I had nothing to lose. But every now and then, I, too, would wonder when I would have what Blake and Ella had.
Now, I was never to find out. With Rose and I married to another, there was only one person I could ever have this bond with. And we wouldn't get there if I do stupid stuff like I did the night before.
