Maya's heart was beating really fast as she stared back into the lizard-like eyes of Deltora as he starred back, he began to hiss through his teeth, snarling at Maya who had already fallen into the wet puddle underneath her.
"What do you want?" She whimpered as Deltora leant in further, examining every part of her.
'This is insane, it can't be her!' Deltora thought to himself, wondering how many more doppelgangers are still to come, first Evelyn, then Mera and now...her.
"How many more are there of you, Evelyn" He hissed loudly.
" I don't know what you mean?" she stuttered.
"Oh, I think you do. And don't think that I don't know the affair you had with Mar, that dog doesn't know from it's left to it's right" Deltora growled, slowly moving towards Maya, scanning every detail of her with his mouth gaped open, allowing Maya's scent to drift in onto the tip of his tongue.
"How do you know Mar?" Maya said shocked, her back now pressed into the ground and the puddle, her uniform now cold and soaking wet.
"We go a long way back, we use to fight the war together before he went and formed a little cult of his own" Deltora grumbled, the thought of Mar going behind his back set of a spark behind his eyes just thinking how good it would feel to finally sink his talons into Mar, especially for what he did.
"What did he do?" Maya said bravely, after seeing Deltora's reaction to when she mentioned Mar's name.
"It's you I should be sinking my claws into" Deltora hissed. "Your little boyfriend Mar abandoned the war, just so you could give birth to those stinking twerps, you said that you had just came from the future to stop the war!" He growled. "But Mar put all of his little soldiers on the line, including me, to protect you and for what cost!"
"Maya, what are you doing?" A smaller voice came from behind Deltora.
It was Tom, he had just finished cleaning up and setting everything so that the restaurant was ready for the next day.
"Nothing, I fell" Maya said getting up from the ground, the back of her uniform was soaking wet as she pressed out some of the water from her back, her face literally a centimetre away from Deltora as she shuddered at the thought of Deltora's sharp teeth tearing through her body at any time that he wanted too.
Of course she was the only one seeing this, so she pretended that she couldn't see Deltora.
Deltora allowed this happen as he knew himself that she was one of the rare people who was gifted with this sight, except for Tom.
"I can still deal with this idiot if you want me to" Deltora asked Maya as he turned his head, now glaring at Tom who couldn't even see Deltora.
"No" Maya muttered.
"What?" Tom replied. "Oh never mind, stupid child" he sulked as he made his way to his car, Maya got into hers and drove off home.
