A.N: Here we go folks and this time I'm going back to my creative writing roots and writing a oneshot for Black Butler/Kuroshitsuji. Tonight we are showing everyone's favourite Butler some love. Please enjoy. Mature themes. Look for the marking at the beginning and end of the chapter. If you're new to me, it's this marking: -*-
Grainne froze, pausing in preparing the meat for dinner. There was something out in the trees surrounding the grand home where she worked. Thinking about what she should do about it, she continued to track the movements. The young master was having his bath at the moment, which meant the butler was up there with him, ensuring the young master was thoroughly clean. She couldn't disturb either of them at the moment. Setting down her knife, she rinsed her hands off and dried them on her apron, before she slid free a bigger knife from the kitchen block. She would just have to see to it herself she supposed.
She hated rats encroaching anywhere near her. They could be handy out at sea but rarely anywhere else. And given they were not at sea currently, she was most unamused that they would dare skitter about. Slipping out into the greenhouse at the back of the house, she caught Finny's attention. Once the blond haired boy was beside her she spoke quietly.
"We have rats skittering in the forest, Finny. I need your help with exterminating them. The boss is helping the young master with his bath, so he is unavailable and I'm behind on making dinner already. So we need to make this quick."
"By rats, I assume you mean uninvited guests, that are planning to be quite impolite?" Finny asked, and when he saw her small smirk, he nodded.
"I do hate rats. Well, let's go Gracie. I've got roses to prune and I don't have all night." As he walked past her, Grainne bonked him on the head with her hand.
"Oww! What was that for!?" Finny pouted, glaring at her for a moment and rubbing his head.
"My name is Grainne! Never call me Grace. Or any variant of it. The bastards that gave it to me, would rather see me defiled and then hung, drawn and quartered. No one is ever allowed to call me Grace." She bit out, her eyes flashing darker to show her anger.
"B– but you let the boss call you Grace? It's a pretty name and you're a pretty woman. So why allow him and no one else!?" Finny asked, confused, his glare softening now.
"Sebastian…he…he's different, Finny. He has done things for me that no one else has. I respect him and he respects me. Far as I'm concerned, after everything, he can call me whatever he likes." She responded, a small blush colouring her cheeks at the thought of the head of household.
Sebastian Michaelis. The otherworldly man, who found waifs and strays with unique talents and gave them a job in the household that he ran. All in a bid to further protect his young charge, the Earl Ciel Phantomhive.
Grainne quite adored young Ciel, but then he reminded her of her eldest son, Eoghan*. He was sweet, kind and forgiving. Although he hid that well, she could see it in how he reacted to her and the other servants when they inevitably made a mistake. Which they did. Frequently. Often right in front of him too. Never a disparaging word to say, or even an arch look. He would simply shake his head and sigh. Sometimes, he even hid a small amused smile. He was a sweet boy to be sure and her heart melted for him. It couldn't be easy to be an orphan. But in other ways, particularly when he was being the Queen's Guard Dog, he reminded her of her second youngest son, Murchadh*. Vengeful. War mongering, relentless and ruthless and he used Sebastian's talents to his great advantage. But, it seemed, Sebastian didn't mind being Ciel's weapon of choice.
