𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑃𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑦

Max's POV (present)

Walking towards the office doors I walked inside seeing a woman sitting at a big desk with loads of papers on top, she looked young and very stressed she had glasses on and a messy bun. I walked up to her and slowly angled myself to her desk thinking she would notice me, she didnt.

"Um excuse me" I said calmly

          Her not noticing she jumped in her seat and took her glasses off putting them inside of a case. She moved a few strands of hair to her ear and sat up straight.

"Yes, how may I help you?" She said tilting her head

"Um Im new here my name is Maxine Mayfield and need a schedule I think" I said unsure of what I was asking for and hating using my full name

"Oh yes of course well first, welcome to Hawkins High School, and your going to want to go to the office right over there and just tell the woman in there exactly what you told me, her name is Mrs. Jones" she told me pointing to a door being her desk

"Ok, thank you" I walked towards the door knocking first then entering. The woman inside looked up at me smiling gesturing me to come sit down

"Why hello you must be Maxine"

"Its Max, just Max"

"Well ok then Max, here is your schedule" She handed me a piece of paper with with almost too many words on it.

"Im going to have one of the boys walk you around the school and you should be done by the time lunch starts, so you'll miss your three first periods but dont worry that wont count as anything" She was saying before the door was slowly opened a small boy peaked his head through the door and let the rest of his body inside.

         The boy had a dark brown bowl cut with with tan skin, he wore a green flannel shirt with light blue jeans that fit a bit tightly. He didn't look up not once, he stared at his shoes twiddling with his hands. When he did look up he looked at me as if I was the first girl he had seen in his life.

"Oh your here great, this is Max shes new and you will be showing her around the school, Max this is Will he's a good kid I swear" she said laughing at her own joke

"Ok um hey Max lets go"Will said looking a bit scared

          We both walked out the door, him holding it for me to walk out. Mrs. Jones was talking from behind us.

"Be done by lunch Byers!" She exclaimed

"Yes ma'am!" Will said giggling a little

I followed him as we walked down the hallway in silence, I felt the need to break the silence but didn't know how. My fingers started to hurt a little from holding my skateboard.

"So Max, where are you from?" He said so quietly I barely heard him

"Um California" I said feeling a little awkward

"How do you like Hawkins?" He asked

"Its ok so far I haven't been hear long though, um where are we going first?" I asked

"Right here, this is the science lab, my favorite room in this school, come on" He motioned me to come inside

It was a particularly big room there were beakers and goggles every where. Some microscopes here and there, not all in the best condition. Stains on just about all the tables and the teachers desk wasn't too organized either, but I liked it. Papers and notes on the walls it was colorful, sun shining through the windows and the whiteboard had drawings and funny faces on it.
