MAX'S POV (present)

I woke to the sound of banging on my room door.

"COME ON MAX GET UP!" I heard Billy's voice echo though the door as he continued to bang his fist against the wood.

"I'm up, I'm up!" God was this going to be everyday?

I heard Billy move away from my room and walk down the stairs as I got out from under my bed sheets. I sleepily stumbled to my closet balancing myself and shutting my eyes tightly and blinking to adjust them to the light before opening it. I grabbed the first things I saw, a yellow shirt, a pair of jean shorts that had rips at the ends, and a striped belt. Throwing my clothes on my bed I began to undress.

"Maxine breakfast!" I heard my mom yell from the floor below me.

"Coming!" I rolled my eyes not having much of an appetite at the moment.

I tightened my belt around my waist and buckled it into place. I stepped into my green hightop vans and picked up my backpack swinging it around to my back. I opened the door and walked out moving to where the stairs were placed, I stepped down them taking a few breathes preparing myself for anything.

"Maxine finally, your foods on the table you have to go soon" My mom pointed to the dining table that had a plate of biscuits and bacon on top.

"Oh um thank you but I'm not that hungry, I'm just gonna go" I quickly walked to the door placing my hand on the handle and twisting it before it opened.

"Maxine!" I heard Neil yell not far behind of me.

I started to run the the side of the house as my bright yellow bike was still resting against the wall. I hopped on and started to pedal as fast as I could away from here. I saw Neil start running after me but he slowed down and stopped when I reached the corner of the street. I was glad Billy wasn't going to be driving me to school anymore, although I did have to leave earlier because going by bike took longer.

"MAX! MAX!"I heard someone yell from the other side of the street, I turned my head to see Dustin and Mike crossing the street on their bikes.

"Oh hey" I smiled at the two looking back forward to the street.

"I didn't know you had a bike!" Dustin pointed to me.

"Yeah I didn't tell you, sorry" I giggled at his comment

"Don't worry its fine" Dustin replied making a low growling noise with his mouth after I widened my eyes looking at Mike.

"Dustin thinks that girls love when he does that... they don't" Mike looked at me and a smile started forming on his face.

"Hey they do!" Dustin yelled at Mike looking quite offended.

Mike started to laugh as he wobbled on his bike a little, I started laughing with him trying to balance as well.

"Its not funny!" Dustin looked between us in disgust rolling his eyes in annoyance.

"Max thinks its funny" Mike looked to Dustin still laughing.

"Because it is" I laughed looking at Dustin than back forward.

"Oh whatever, we're here" Dustin pointed ahead to the school as we continued to pedal towards it.

We all slowed down and stopped our bikes getting off, we walked them to the bike rack locking them into place. We walked through the schools double doors. It was busy outside today, students and teachers all rambling through the halls.

"Hey we're gonna go to our lockers, we'll try to find your after" Dustin and Mike waved and walked their separate way.

I looked around still lost as it was only my second day, I reached for the piece of paper that I had shoved in my pocket right before I left. I unfolded it, my classes and locker number were printed on to it.
