The scorching sun hits your eyes and the loud traffic noise fills your ears. Looking around you find yourself in the middle of the busy street, people walking in a rush, most of them on their phones, glued to their ears. You are wearing a floral summer dress and rummaging your bag, you find a pair of big sunglasses that will hopefully help you block the annoying sun. Breathing in, you get a taste of salty ocean air and with one goal in mind, your legs take you to the beach.
It's Saturday and everyone who has a day off is at the sandy beach, enjoying the hot Los Angeles sun. Models, influencers, and tourists make the most of the crowd but you still found a spot for your folded chair. Letting your belongings on the chair and under the parasol and getting ready to go swimming, you spot a tall young man approaching, carrying a big canvas, easel, and a folded wooden stool, with a bag hanging from his other shoulder. He's wearing white clothes and a hat, under which strands of semi-long black hair can be seen. He positions his tools not too far from you, burying the legs of the easel deep into the sand, and silently unpacks the paints and brushes.
"Hello," you say, applying sunscreen on your arms. The man looks at you and smiles and you notice his handsome face, with his full lips and sharp eyes his most noticeable features.
"Hi," he replies in the most pleasant voice. His face seems really familiar but you can't remember.
"You're rather early today," you say and shake your head - what does this sentence even mean? You're seeing this man for the first time but your tongue works for you. The man looks at you again. "I've seen you paint before, mostly at the dock. You're such an amazing artist. Do you sell these paintings?"
The man chuckles and shakes his head, "No, these are just for fun. Painting helps me relax," he answers and you nod. You two exchange a smile before he turns to look in the distance, "I love the ocean..." he mutters, almost too quietly.
"Me too," you agree, tying up your hair, "Swimming helps me relax. Well, enjoy. See you later!" you wave to him and go running into the water.
The male smiles and opens his palette, dipping the brush in the water and beginning his work.
...
You open your eyes to someone's voice and looking up you see the young man in white from before - the painter.
"Hi, excuse me for disturbing you but I made this for you..." he says and turns the canvas towards you, revealing his art. You realize that you were asleep, sunbathing, and the man painted you as you were laying on the beach chair in a swimsuit, reading a book with your sunglasses and straw hat on. You look up at him in surprise. "I-I'm sorry for not asking for your permission but... I just wanted to paint something different today and you were the perfect model," you notice a faint blush on his cheeks and find his stuttering voice really cute. You thank him for using you for his art, admiring his talent, and introducing yourself. You learn that his name is "Jin" and that he moved to LA from South Korea. He apologized for his broken English but you found it cute, joking around that you'll help him learn.
"Would you like to drink something? Sitting for hours in this sun can be exhausting and I know just a bar," you smile but he turns you down.
"I'm sorry," Jin apologizes, "I must go home now but if you're here tomorrow..."
"Yup, I'll see you tomorrow!" you smile and he goes up the stairs.
...
A bartender puts the tall beer glass in front of you and the soft lounge music fills your ears. You stare silently at the glass and then up at the bald guy behind the bar.
"Hey, are you alright?" you hear a familiar voice on your left and turn to it to see Jin sitting on the bar stool next to you, "You seem a little lost in thought..." he smiles. He's wearing a white linen shirt, similar to the one he wore at the beach, and jeans, his long black hair tied in a small ponytail.
